A/N: Alright. So, I'm not sure I like this very much, but I really needed to write something, so I kind of forced this out. I like the gist of this little drabble, but I am very iffy on if it is actually one that I like. I'll be going over this at a later date with my beta, so remember, this is un-edited. Any feedback is more than welcome, and I hope you enjoy my first Potter fic in over a year.
This is completely AU and I stand beside my H/Hr shipper status. I understand that it didn't happen, and that it won't, but honest to god, Harry and Hermione make a way better couple that Harry and Ginny. And yes, they are engaged at 19 and 20, and have Teddy with them.
I don't own any of this. I'm just playing in JKR's sandbox.
The moonlight shone down across the nursery floor, making the scarlet and gold of the room glow even brighter than it did in the sun. As Hermione peered around the door, she watched Harry rock Teddy gently, humming whimsical lullabies as he stared out at the full moon.
She often found her husband in this position on the full moon, rocking his godson gently back and forth, strong arms gentle as he cradled the baby to his chest, contemplating the horrible things only he had seen during the Battle of Hogwarts.
"Your father was a great man." Harry told the little boy softly, as he shifted Teddy gently, smiling as the baby continued his blissful sleep. "I'm sorry that I had so much time with him, while you had so very little."
The rhythmic rocking continued for another few moments, before Harry stood and gently settled Teddy into his crib, covering the small child with a soft white blanket, his hand lingering on Teddy's back as his humming softened and faded.
"He's a lucky little fellow, to have you." Hermione murmured softly, a sad smile crossing her features as she moved gracefully across the silent room to stand beside Harry, leaning against him as she watched the baby sleep.
She leaned down to kiss the crown of Teddy's head, smoothing the downy wisps of hair gently with her fingertips. He was an exact replica of Remus, and when he was sleeping, he even had his father's brown hair. She pulled her fingers away and turned to look at Harry's face, shocked to see a small smile on his features.
"I know." Harry replied softly, wrapping his arms around Hermione as they stood and watched Teddy Lupin sleep, the soft whoosh of his breath almost as soothing as the creak of the old rocking chair.
The peace that washed over Harry at that moment was a warm welcome after many sleepless nights and tears shed over those he had lost. He leaned down and kissed Hermione's cheek, glancing once more out at the full moon. Harry could only thank Remus for this tiny blessing to his and Hermione's family, the small boy a reminder that he did indeed have something to live for.
