Kazuha Tohyama was pissed. Oh no, she wasn't upset. She was not angry. She was pissed. And the reason for her pissed off-ness was standing less than two feet away from her, happily oblivious to her anger as he pored over another Ellery Queen novel.

Why me? Kazuha asked herself. Of all the possible men in the world I could fall in love with, it just HAD to be this aho.

Oh, of course, this wasn't anything new. She was completely used to Heiji's obliviousness – after all, she was his little follower. But for once, Heiji had gone too far.

She'd gotten the idea in English class, when they had been reading Othello. She had gathered up her courage, and sprung a line on him that afternoon, just a couple of minutes ago.

A couple of minutes ago:

"Hey Heiij?" Kazuha asked slightly shyly, wondering if this would ever work. "Do any of your friends have a crush on me?"

Heiji whipped around, face flushed. "Why? Did somebody ask you out? I'm going to kill them, that bast-"

Kazuha cut him off sternly, heart secretly doing flip-flops at Heiji's anger. "No, Heiji, nobody asked me out. I just wanted to tell you that if you have a friend who does like me, tell them to act exactly like you and I'll fall in love with them."

Kazuha waited with bated breath, blushing, looking down at the floor, and positive that he'd finally gotten it. But after a few strained moments, she looked up to find that Heiji had just kept walking.

"Thanks, Kazuha," he had told her, smiling as if nothing was different. "If I know anybody who's stupid enough to fall in love with you, I'll be sure to let them know."

So now, Kazuha was pissed, so much so that she ignored the obvious insult. How can that guy not get a clue?! I spelled it out for him, didn't I? He's supposed to be the smartest guy in the West, and he can't even figure it out that his best friend is in freaking LOVE with him! That aho.

It was amidst all her inner grumbling that she thought of it. Blushing furiously, she beat the idea back down, only to have it resurface immediately. After some inner debating, her judgement clouded by annoyance, she did it.

Pulling Heiji to her, she kissed him. Hard.

Realizing that he wasn't responding to her kiss, she pulled away. "I – I gotta go," she muttered, angry at herself for kissing him and wondering what on earth had possessed her to do such a thing. "Sorry!"

The only reason she stopped was because of the hand that caught hers. She whirled around, and her startled face was met with a kiss on the cheek from Heiji.

"Let's go," he smiled at her, walking away as he entwined her hand in hers.

That day, Kazuha discovered a newfound love of Valentine's Day, Othello, and Shakespeare. But most importantly, she finally got Hattori Heiji to admit that he loved her.
