My first, and probably only Sky High story I'm going to write. So please enjoy it. It's short, so I apologize to those who were hoping for something long. Haha. Please read and review. I would really appreciate it. In the viewpoint of Warren.
STORY
" So let me get this straight. . .you're just going to this dance with me to get Will jealous," I say to her with raised eyebrows, sticking my fork into a piece of meat before me. " You're not going there with me because you like me."
I can see her struggling with herself; wondering whether ot would be better for her to tell me the truth or lie to me. Lying, of course, would be what I would prefer. I've been lied to for my entire life. I remember asking my mother when I was young what my father was like, and why I always heard the two of them upstairs fighting and quarrelling. She just assured me that nothing was happening, and straight after that would walk away, a smile on her face; forced and etched with strains of grief.
But I was used to that. When I first found out my powers when I was ten years old and burned down my first playroom, I asked my father what it was. But he didn't answer me; he just told me that that was what puberty was like. I would laugh at the thought of that now. How could I be so stupid as to believe something as lame and stupid as that?
My father was sent to jail on my eleventh birthday. My father was fighting some man outside the house when he was brought down to the ground. I asked what my father was doing, and my mother replied to me that that was just some friendly sport they were playing. Relieved, I went outside to bring my father a glass of water.
As I opened the door and ran to my dad, I saw him being carried away by men in dark blue uniforms. As soon as they saw me, they hid my father away from sight, and a man in a red, blue, and white uniform stood before me. He was tall. . .rather handsome too. He looked down at me in pity. His parter flew down from the sky and landed down beside me; and the two of them just stood there looking down at me in utmost grief and sadness.
" Where are you taking my father?" I asked.
They looked at each other before looking at me.
" Nowhere." they said. " He'll be back soon."
And they flew off.
" Yeah." the girl said.
My eyes widened.
She. . .didn't like me.
Time seemed to stop then when I let out a chuckle and smirked. " Then I'm in." I said, forcing a smile at her as I drew away from the table.
To Hell with her stupid friends that were surrounding me.
To Hell with the food before me.
I think I might have already lost my appetite.
Must have been the spinach.
Or maybe not.
" But I'm not wearing a tux." I growled, and she smiled brightly back at me. Leia? Was that her name? No wait. . .that was the girl from Star Wars with the really bad hairdo. I walked away, hands in my pockets.
I'll go with this Layla girl to the dance. Maybe I would wear a tux. Not telling the truth to someone for once would be a nice change. I think mom has dad's old wedding monkeysuit in one of those old cabinets somewhere. Maybe I'll bring it to the laundry cleaner's. Yeah. That's what I'll do.
And as I walked out the cafeteria without looking back, I hoped that for once, the girl had been lying to me.
