Hope: Mewtwo's Perspective

Author's Notes: Mewtwo's perspective on perhaps the one of the most vital themes found in literature, this is in no way a reflection of my own ideals.

Disclaimer: I do not own Mewtwo or Pokemon they are copyrights of Nintendo.

Hope.

Is it a feeling? Is it a sensation? Or is it a belief?

It is a word the humans use when in the darkest of circumstances, when all else is lost. It is a word they hold onto; believing it alone can save them from the evil and the corruption of the world. Hope is a word the humans rely on to fulfill their desires and expectations. It is what keeps them from falling into madness and despair.

So then, what is hope?

Hope is universal, for anyone can stimulate this…feeling. The question is not whether you can or cannot hope, but rather whether or not you are willing to place your own faith into such an ideal.

I despise hope.

It is an empty word, lacking meaning and substance.

It does not exist; an illusion forged by irrational beliefs. All who put faith in hope are cowards for believing such a concept will grant them freedom and salvation. But I know better, I know that hope is neither a boon nor an escape from despair.

I understand enough to know that hope is the greatest of all evils.

Humans continue to endure torment and suffering on the basis that they believe their hopes will be fulfilled. They do not realize that it is hope itself which causes them to suffer. Even in the midst of greatest despair, both humans and pokemon believe that they, by some unlikely circumstance, will achieve release. Hope will grant them nothing but motivation to prolong torment.

I pity the humans, for torturing themselves and I shall continue to watch over them, protecting them if they wish it, perhaps by doing so I am fulfilling some of their "hopes." Maybe it is what keeps humans from throwing away their lives.

However, I myself will never give death the satisfaction of watching me grovel; insisting that I will be saved by some unearthly grace.

When the death comes for me, I will accept it, welcome it and embrace it.

I will hope for nothing.
