Yay! A small little fic about Jak and Daxter before that fateful day when Dax fell into the dark ooze. Aaah... nostalgia is what made me write this.

Disclaimer: I do not own these characters. They belong to NaughtyDog. I love Naughty Dog... Anyway! I do not get money! Do not sue, ya won't get much... maybe a nice lump of lint, if I can even find that.

Enjoy!

Jak sighed and rested against the hard bark of the tree. He smiled and stuck a piece of fruit in his mouth. The sweet juice flowed over his tongue, and made the boy grin with delight. It was another wonderful day. Laying back, resting his head on his hands, Jak stared at the bright blue sky. Before he could drift off to sleep, Daxter plopped down next to him.

"Hey ya buddy! What 'cha doin' over here?" Daxter grinned widely at green haired boy.

Jak shrugged and yawned, and stretched his overly long limbs. Glancing over at Daxter, he too grinned.

"Oooh... That Samos! He went off and yelled at me again." Daxter pouted and crossed his arms over his chest. "I didn't even do anything wrong! Those darn yakkows weren't going to be hurt. I'm not that dumb." Daxter huffed and put all his effort in his pout as he looked over at Jak. "Ya know!"

Jak just giggled and nodded sleepily, his eyes staring at the dark foreboding spot on the horizon. He tilted his head and squinted his eyes, hoping that maybe he could see something on that far away island.

"Ya know!" Daxter continued. "I really think that sometimes! Just sometimes, that old coot just says some of the things he does, just to get on my nerves!" Another huff. "Are you listening to me?" He poked Jak's ribs lightly, grinning as the other boy laughed and fell over onto the lush green grass.

Jak grinned at his friend and straightened himself out. He nodded in acknowledgment to the other boy. Pressing his back against the thinner boys side, he sighed happily. Soon they both fell asleep under the bright yellow-green sun.

Samos paced his hut. "That island... that island is not a good place! Its filled with Dark Eco! You can't go!" The old man turned on his foot and stormed out of the small hut, leaving Jak and Daxter standing there completely confused.

"Well... if the old guy says its not safe... its not safe!" Daxter grinned, thankful Samos had actually been on his side for once. "Lets go fishing!" Daxter grinned and began to strut out the front door, when Jak grabbed his shoulder and drug him down to the dock.

Jak looked at the little motor powered boat tied up at the dock. He grinned and touched the wood gently, feeling the rough surface before jumping in. He waved a hand at the petrified looking Daxter.

"Ah buddy... I really don't think this is a good idea. I mean ya heard what ol Samos said..." Daxter twiddled his thumbs and bit his lip. "I dunno." He backed a step away staring at his best, never failed to be there for him, friend. "Alright... Fine! But this is your only birthday present!" Daxter called as he ungracefully fell into the rocking boat.

As the motor churned and the Misty Island got closer and closer, Jak's grin got bigger and bigger. He finally plopped down in the boat and sighed happily, scooting over a bit as Daxter fell down next to him.

"Ya n-know buddy... I guess I better tell you this before we die horrible deaths... I love ya man! You're my best friend! And I'm proud to say it! I'll always be there for ya!" Daxter clung onto the other boy tightly. He squeezed his eyes shut and slowly counted the minutes down as they got closer and closer.

Jak blinked and then hugged his friend back. He smiled broadly and shook the boy as they hit the shore of the foreboding island. As they stepped off, neither realized that this little adventure would change their lives forever.
