Author's Note: Hello all! This piece was originally supposed to go into my "What I'm About To Do Today" series... ultimately though, it didn't make the final cut. I found it again in one of my notebooks though and decided I may as well post it. So, here it is.
Dislclaimer: White Collar and all related characters still do not, and never will, belong to me.
The line in italics at the beginning is the prompt line the story stemmed from. It belongs to the book Gone and is also not mine.
Normal
Today normal had crashed and burned.
And what was normal anyway?
Personally, Elizabeth Burke had never quite thought her husband's relationship with Neal Caffrey was exactly normal.
Even before they became partners.
Especially before they became partners.
And that was okay. That was Peter. And she could accept that.
The day she met Neal Caffrey dawned bright and early and she got up and went about her routine like it was any other day. Peter was still in bed when the doorbell rang and if anyone had told her that inside of five minutes she would be sitting on her couch chatting comfortably with an internationally renowned art thief she would have laughed.
That was what happened though.
The doorbell rang… and Neal Caffrey smiled at her.
That was all it took, really, and Elizabeth honestly doesn't quite know how it happened.
Peter had always spoken well of Neal though. Aside from the fact that he broke the law on a regular basis, of course.
Elizabeth found him to be every bit as charming as his pictures suggested.
She liked him immediately.
No, Elizabeth doesn't think normal has much to do with it, and as long as Neal is a part of their lives it probably won't.
And that too, is okay. She can accept it.
Neal would keep things interesting.
Besides, what was normal anyway?
-End.
