AN: So I saw a head canon that Alphonse Elric's first word was "Brother" and then, this happened. Enjoy, and please review!
Sun filtered through the satin curtains as the breeze blew them in a tangled dance over a small cradle that lay beside the window. The high-pitched gurgling of the child in the cradle called the attention of a woman, the mother of the child. She reached into the cradle and gently scooped him into her arms, cooing to him in a voice that was reminiscent of wind chimes in the summer. Another little boy, this one standing on his feet, ran into the room, his face boasting a smile comparable to that of a child on Christmas morning when surrounded by gifts of many colors. The woman laughed and ruffled the child's soft blonde hair, which grew to resemble his father's more and more with every passing day. As if pulled by a supernatural force, the boy's father, his long blonde hair pulled into its normal ponytail, walked into the room, adjusting his glasses and awkwardly extending his hands to his son. His son ran towards the tall man, jumping into his arms and startling him slightly.
"Ed, do you want to say hi your brother?" his mother asked, holding out the baby towards his older brother. The little boy named Ed extended a hand to the baby, whose eyes opened as Ed touched him.
"Hi, Al," Ed says quietly as Al wrapped his chubby toddler fingers around Ed's outstretched hand. Al began gurgling unintelligibly, his chubby legs kicking as his mother set him down, laughing at her son's adventurous nature, which would always remind her of the boys' father. The father set down Ed as well, and they stepped back so that the children could play together on the floor, Ed rolling a small ball towards Al, and Al nudging it back with clumsy fingers. Al began mumbling, slowly becoming louder as he fought to say something.
"What is it?" the mother asked Al in her honey-soft voice.
"B… bro…. brother…" Al managed to gurgle out. The woman clapped, her brown hair falling in her face as she bent over to pick up her son. She tickled his exposed feet and laughed.
"Do you love your big brother Ed?" Trisha asked. Ed's face lit up as he heard Al mumble his name, still stumbling over his tongue, and for a short moment in time, the small, almost-perfect family allowed all worries to disappear as they reveled in the youngest child's first words.
