The Bird

(Ryou PoV)

Oh selfish bird, jealousy has run rampant through your soul. The darkened wings of night can't touch you, black as your sins are.

The voice you make yourself heard with can sound like rolling thunder; thunder that strikes one to their very core.

The power, confidence, and knowledge is revealed with every smirk.

I'm afraid of you. Not as much as I once was, but I still fear you and your dark ways.

But I knew you'd be back, my yami. I knew you'd follow the pharaoh back. You're will to exist is amazing; otherwise you wouldn't still be around, would you?

You're not as bad without Zork, are you? Are you completely different, or just not as full of rage?

I don't expect you to sob to me and promise to never leave again as Atem did for Yugi. As a matter of fact, my yami, I half expect you to command me to get you a steak when you walk through the front door.

You're right outside. And I fear my selfish bird.

(3rd Person PoV)

Bakura pushed open the front door and glowered at his haikari. "I could hear that, you know." Ryou lowered his gaze to the floor, "Very sorry, yami…" Bakura huffed impatiently and tapped his fingers on the door frame, "So where's that damn steak? I'm hungry!"

Authors Note: This was a lot of fun to write. The idea came to me watching some cardinals compete for a spot at our bird feeder in our back yard. The first line popped into my head and I thought it sounded kind of neat, so I wrote it down. At first I was going to make it a choice of haikari and yami, so you never really knew who was thinking, but as I continued it became apparent to me that this was a Bakura and Ryou story.

I hope you enjoyed this, please review!
