There were some things Matsuda Touta could understand better than Light or Ryuuzaki would ever be able to. For instance, Misa.
She was, to the two prodigies, something of an annoyance and vastly confounding. They, higher minds and much less emotional, didn't quite get the intense passions she felt. Matsuda, on the other hand, being more connected with his emotions and less so with things like philosophy and logic, understood perfectly. She loved Light and he treated her terribly and misunderstood her devotion for brainlessness, like everyone else did.
Matsuda knew how she was feeling because in high school he'd had a Tragic Romance. He'd devoted his life and very being to a scornful young woman with brown hair and startlingly green eyes who had transferred over from Sweden the year before. She had not been beautiful, being in possession of a rather unfashionably long nose and a close-set pair of eyes, but that didn't matter to Matsuda; her wit was sharp, her lips full, and her smile wonderful. Lovesick, he'd trailed her around for most of the term before finally working up the nerve to ask her out.
She'd said yes.
And one month later exactly had broken up with him, explaining unblushingly and totally without guilt how she had been using him to get to his best friend(who, to her dismay, had told her to go stalk someone else).
His heart had been crushed. For days he moped around the house and came this close to calling her, until his mother had very sensibly told him to dry up and get over it.
Misa's mother, however, was dead. And Light was trying to put her tactfully off, and when he broke it off with her, who was going to be there to be sensible?
Matsuda may not have been the smartest guy in the Task Force, but the day Amane Misa killed herself, he'd tried to get ahold of her.
There had been no answer.
He'd expected that.
Hmm. DN fanfiction that is not a drabble. How long's it been since THAT happened?
This took a bit of a different direction then I'd expected. I dunno if I like it, I think it concentrates too much on the story of Matsu's Tragic Romance.
Ah, well.
Not meant to imply MatsuMisa, but if you like the pairing, by all means, read that into it, frsrsly. MisaxAny Task Force Guy is unloved.
