Summary: Everybody on the island has somebody. Some people have more than one. But he's got a doppelganger, and even that isn't enough.
GA: I'm supposed to be working on replies but instead I wrote this. It's based on a multi-fandom RP group, Wishful Crossing, in which I play both Shinichi and Kaito, and I just decided to write some introspection on Shin, because I felt the need to write anything about him. As such, though, this isn't really based on DC canon, and instead on WC canon.
The song I wrote this to was Be My Escape by Relient K, but it really has nothing to do with this fic. Any non-DC characters I refer to will be identified at the bottom.
Anyways, enjoy!
WASH AWAY
There was nothing quite like being Kudo Shinichi, especially not on an island like Solitude. Not when he was Conan one day, Shinichi the next, and dead every day in between. Not when his colleagues were slowly learning everything about him, even the things that he had kept hidden from his closest friends for so long. Not when the only person he thought he could count on was never around.
It wasn't the same, living with the others. He had roommates, yes, but he barely ever talked to them. He had the SPF, but they all had their own allegiances, Naoto with her investigation team and Charlie with, well, with whatever she had with Raphael. And maybe he had Nino, maybe, but even that was iffy, because it was dangerous and he was scared that he'd hurt her if he ever left again, and he didn't want to leave but what if he couldn't stop it next time-
A deep sigh, and the crash of waves on the shore. Maybe this was why they called it Solitude. Because however many people there were on this island, he had never felt so undoubtedly, irrevocably alone before.
Even Kai had disappeared to God-knows-where. The phantom thief -his phantom thief - had found others like him, other thieves who could relate to him more than Shinichi ever would be able to. As connected as they were back in Japan, secret organizations and secret identities all rolled up into cloned little packages, there was nothing between them here. Pandora wasn't here, the black organization wasn't here, the dependence they had built on each other just was not there.
Another deep sigh, this one less peaceful and more resigned as he dragged his palm over his face. He was tired, and everything was starting to hurt. Had it hurt this much back on the mainland? He didn't even remember, it was all starting to blur together.
Maybe that was for the best though, he determined after a moment. Maybe everything will stop hurting if he forgot what was causing the pain. Hattori, Haibara, Ran…if he just forgot everybody, then it would be all over and he could live in Solitude in peace. His thoughts, his worries, his memories all washed away from the shores, leaving nothing but who he was now. No then, just now.
Of course, forgetting was hard for a boy with eidetic memory.
One last sigh, this one accompanied by a bitter laugh.
Maybe he'd just wash away, instead.
GA: Ah~ That was relatively short, but I wasn't aiming for something too long. As promised, here are the other characters:
Naoto Shirogane: Persona 4
Charlotte "Charlie" Vergier and Raphael: Rhythm Thief
Nino: Fire Emblem
Of course, I should be updating either Divine or Misshapen Dismonds, probably the former, sometime soon.
Til then!
