Chapter one

Berk has always been an odd place to live, only recently have they started to train dragons and ride them. People have lived in peace with them on the island some have learned to work with them. Though the most famous on the island was the dragon riders. Stoic, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, Ruffnut and Tuffnut but all of Berk had one rider more idolized for what he had done in the history of Berk, Hiccup and his best friend plus dragon Toothless.

Life had been quiet recently no outcasts attack, no dragon going rampaging, no accidents. Even the twins had been good recently. It was so quiet no one had anything fun to do. Hiccup sat on the beach eating a piece of bread for lunch as Toothless jumped in the water catching a fish in his mouth.

"Sure has been quiet recently hasn't it bud?" Hiccup asked as his dragon nodded after swallowing the fish whole.

"Even the twins have finally been behaving; maybe it took that forest fire to get them to pay more attention to people. Its, its…." Hiccup said waving his arms around trying to find the word he wants. Toothless walked up to him and yawned before collapsing on the sand in the sun.

"Couldn't have said it better then myself Toothless," Hiccup said as he slumped over petting the night fury.

"Hiccup what are you doing here?" Astrid asked as she walked next to Hiccup wearing nice shiny armor.

"What it's not like anything better is going to happen today so I thought I'd enjoy the beach…hey is that new armor?" Hiccup asked looking at Astrid.

"Why yes it is thank you for noticing."

"Oh crap don't tell me it's your birthday!" Hiccup said jumping up in panic making Toothless jump.

"No Hiccup, trader Johann is back and he has something he wants to tell you and your dad." Astrid said with crossed arms.

"Wait what how did I not know this earlier?" Hiccup said in a shock.

"Well that is probably because he hasn't been here long and well you got to see what happened." Astrid said as Hiccup got on Toothless before they took off with Hiccup saying thanks in the distance.

In just a few minutes Hiccup was at the docks and a large crowd was surrounding it like normal, however as he got closer he noticed they weren't staring at the goods Johann normally brings or at their newest gifts from him, in fact many had faces of fear and worry as they made way for Toothless to land. Hiccup walked up to his father and Gobber standing next to an injured Johann.

Johann's hair was soaked, his head was bandaged and his arm was in a sling. He waved at Hiccup to get closer.

"Johann what happened!" Hiccup asked his eyes wide in shock before looking at the badly damaged ship.

"It was a dragon rider…" Johann said.

"What!" Hiccup, Stoic, and Gobber said in shock.

"Yes not far from here, I saw a large dragon in the sky it had attacked a couple of nightmares and even brought 'em down, I figured it was one of you riders, so I called out thinking it was maybe you Hiccup. The dragon then came down and attacked me I didn't get a good look at it but I swore the rider was wearing bones and had a weapon.

"That doesn't sound like any of us." Hiccup said looking at his father.

"No, and you all don't fight dragons unless you have too. This can't be any of you…but who?" Gobber asked looking at Stoic.

"I am unsure, Hiccup grab the others and the dragons we are going to check this out." Stoic said staring at his son then turning to Johann. "Gobber will help you recover while I'm gone."

"Alright dad, I'll get everyone ready." Hiccup said as he got on Toothless spreading his wings.

"We'll meet back here so we can take off now hurry." Stoic said as he watched his son fly off to get the others.
