Breaking The Cycle
Chapter 1: The Awakening of a New Hero: The Two Mentors
Deep in Gerudo Valley, a young man stirred, his tan skin and fiery red hair revealed him to be one of the thieves Queen Zelda's regime was trying to hunt down… his mother didn't come back from one of the raids. The young man's name was Kaigi.
"Kai! Kai! Wake up, slowpoke!" his big sister, Saivara, called.
"M'coming…" he groaned, raking his hair back from his eyes as he tied it back. He rubbed his bleary green eyes and joined his sister outside. He was an exceptionally odd Gerudo, being the fabled one male in a hundred years, he was special also because he had zero magic potential. Every Gerudo male had some sort of magic potential and thirst for combat. Something Kaigi lacked in almost every capacity. He was oddly pacifistic. His problem was that he had intense anger issues.
"C' mon, brother! You can't just fight! You're the only male Gerudo, how else are you gonna defend us from the Hylians?" Saivara sighed deeply as her brother fell on his backside.
"Do I really have to fight them?" Kaigi asked, sweat pouring from his brow.
"Tell that to Mother, to Little Sis, I think they'd be ashamed to have such a lily-livered son and brother!" His sister snapped at him as he stood back up.
"Take that back…" he warned, his rage replacing his fear. He hefted an ax over his head.
*RRRRR OOOOHHHH!* The alarm horn sounded as Saivara stopped Kaigi.
"Get going, Kai! Go to the Shrine of the Sword!" she yelled.
"W-what about you?!" Kaigi asked, grabbing his shield.
"Don't worry about me, just go!" Saivara encouraged. Kaigi ran as fast as his legs could carry him to the distant shrine as the Hylians attacked. Kaigi dashed faster as arrows whiffed past him, he opened the huge stone door and closed it shut behind him, running to the altar in the center and falling to the floor. Kaigi slept, and the next morning, he was held in the arms of someone else.
"Mmm? Where- Ah!" Kaigi gasped, scrambling out of the arms of the mysterious person, he had pale white skin and looked feminine, his lips were a pale white as purple make-up accented his features. His white hair went over one eye as he woke up.
"Hm? Oh! Master, you're awake! Thank goodness!" The man squealed, helping Kaigi up. Kaigi looked up at the man in slight fear.
"Oh, where are my manners? I am Ghirahim. I am your sword, Master Ganondorf, you built this shrine for me, don't you remember?" he asked.
"I think you've got the wrong Gerudo… I'm Kaigi, not Ganondorf!" Kaigi denied. An azure light appeared as Ghirahim moaned deeply. A taller Gerudo woman appeared in front of the pair, a small smile played on her lips. She seemed kind.
"Well isn't this interesting?" she greeted. She walked towards Kaigi and Girahim.
"Instead of being the holder of the Triforce of Power… you're holding a different one, Kaigi. Son of Noma. I'm Urbosa." the woman greeted as Kaigi remembered the stories of the woman who dances with lightning.
"Wait… you're the old champion! That coward Sibara leads us as the champion now… and led the proud Gerudo to destruction!" Kaigi growled as Urbosa giggled.
"Just as fiery as I remember your father… As your mother, I couldn't be more proud, even if you're half-Gerudo…" Urbosa sighed, touching Kaigi's cheek and tilting his head up.
"I thought… I thought I was Ragika's son! My sister… my sister is Saivara!" Kaigi said, shaking his head, not believing that Urbosa was really his mother.
"Come now, is that what she told you?" Urbosa sighed, smiling sadly.
"You've been lied to, my son. I know it must be shocking that your mother is the former champion… and you can wield the Demon Sword. It's not very shocking that my own son would be an incarnation of an old friend of mine…" Urbosa said with pride, patting her son on his head.
"Do you at least have experience with swords, Kaigi?" she wondered.
"Uh… no, ma'am…" Kaigi admitted.
"A bow, maybe?" she asked, looking a little desperate.
"Does a slingshot count?" Kaigi offered.
Urbosa sighed as Ghirahim stopped her, "Please, milady. Take it easy on him. He's grown up peacefully enough. I know that you'd prefer him to be a warrior, but some men aren't made to be warriors," Ghirahim informed.
Kaigi went up to Ghirahim, "Can you turn into a sword, Ghira? I wanna see what I can do without training!" he ordered as Ghirahim complied, turning into a black and silver blade with diamond designs on it, perfectly balanced to his hand, it was one-handed.
"Okay, that's a start," Urbosa acknowledged.
She unsheathed a scimitar and took her stance as Kaigi took up his staff-shield.
"Come at me, son! Bring me your best!" Urbosa encouraged. Kaigi charged, his blade singing through the air as he clashed with her. He pushed against her, blocking a hit with his shield. He still kept his shield up.
"Not bad, son! Fighting is sort of a dance, you have to find the rhythm and adapt to it. Other enemies may not have one!" she coached as Kaigi backed up.
"Master, you have a projectile attack, my arrows!" Ghirahim informed as Kaigi raised his sword and charged again as Urbosa blocked and knocked him down.
"You can't just charge in, Kaigi," Urbosa sighed deeply as Kaigi fell to his knees and gasped in fatigue.
Later, as night fell and Kaigi filled his belly with snake meat, he was asleep. Ghirahim and Urbosa watched over him.
"I can't believe that Zelda's descendant was so cruel… that cruel woman enslaved my people and said it was justice…" Urbosa growled as Kaigi slept against her chest. She put her arm around her boy.
"I never knew my new master would be a hero instead of a conqueror. He's not Ganondorf… his aura feels different…" Ghirahim sighed.
"He's Link this time… I think this is the last cycle. I can feel it," Ghirahim huffed.
"Kaigi is adorable…" Urbosa whispered as he stirred.
"Mmm… Mama…" he groaned as he squeezed Urbosa.
"Good night, Kaigi… I'll be here to protect you…" she cooed.
