"What do you want me to say?" Gibbs asked her.
He knew full well what he needed to say. He needed to tell his lost princess what to do, but that was it. She needed to learn that he wouldn't always be there to tell her what to do. He could be gone any day. He wanted her to start thinking for herself. To start trusting her gut feeling. He knew it was hard, he knew the case, the evidence, the bullet, had damaged their trust. He also knew she would choose the right thing but, in the end he would fall of his throne and Abby would have to stand beside the new king and to live by her gut feeling.
"Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me I made a mistake with the ballistics."
She pleaded and his heart sank. He had did this to his girl. He was leaving her confused when all she wanted was an answer. She wanted to believe she did something wrong. She wanted to but it only made her mind race with hurt every time she looked at the evidence.
"No. No, I can't say that."He said in honesty. She was correct. Even after that he regretted the position he put her in the last few days. Abby did her job, even when she didn't want to.
"Then... tell me how much I've been like a daughter to you, and how much you love me " Abby said needing to hear does words come out his mouth.
"Will that help?"
" No. What I really need to know Gibbs, is if you're gonna love me... no matter what. "
Gibbs paused for a moment. Abby walked away as tears sprang in her eyes. He hesitated, she thought. She was starting up the stairs we grabbed her and pulled her into a hug. He then backed her away from him and cupped her cheek so she was looking dead at him. She tried to fight him, to hide her tears but he held her strong.
"Abbs" He sighed out "You don't...You don't have to ask that question. You already know the answer."
"No, no I don't, I need you to tell me what to do. I need you to help me daddy." She said to him while looking at the floor. "No one has to know" She whispered
"Abby, I'm telling you to do what I have always told you to do. Do your job."
"I can't, this evidence...I can't"
He brushed some of the tears away.
" Do your job Abbs."
She brought her face to his chest. She shook her head no but, somehow she knew she would be doing the very thing she was born to do. Her job.
