Time: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Disclaimer: Don't own Harry Potter, never will except by some miracle.
"It's in your blood, Harry."
The words echoed through Harry's head as he stared up at the canopy over his bed, ignoring the soft snores from Neville's bed. Hermione's glee at knowing something about Harry's past that he himself had not…well, he supposed he couldn't blame her. Really, it was pathetic how little he knew about his family. It wasn't as though it was really his fault, though. Growing up with the Dursleys, well…his parents just weren't talked about.
He did wish he could look at that Quidditch trophy again. It had been the greatest thing he'd ever seen, all shiny and gold, and his dad's name engraved on the plate. What a fantastic thing, to get a trophy with your name on it. It likely had made everyone look at his dad and say, 'Oi, look there, that's James Potter! Won a trophy for his flying, he did! What an honor!'
A small knot formed at the back of Harry's throat. He wished he could do something so great, to make his dad and mum proud of him. Maybe…maybe if he flew well enough, it would be good enough for his dad to look down from…wherever wizards went…and smile. Everyone was so excited about his being the Boy-Who-Lived, but that was nothing, just something he'd done as a baby that he didn't even remember. Maybe, just maybe, some day he could do something that his parents would be proud of, that- how was it?- would bring honor to the name of Potter. Maybe he would even win a trophy. Maybe he would get a medal. Maybe…
He was asleep.

Author's Note: OK, so this was just a short exercise. I really just felt like writing something short and a little sad. The scene in Sorceror's Stone where Hermione casually points out the trophy that had been awarded to Harry's dad kind of pricked my heart a little. Poor kid. Eleven years old, and never knew the parents that everyone else goes on about. I have a fair amount of insight into the way an eleven-year-old boy's mind works(having helped raise three of them), so I think this drabble kind of pins down what Harry probably would have been thinking about later on.
If you like, review.
