FIRO'S NIGHTMARES
For those of you who have not seen the anime and read the manga (or at least heard of what happens in them) there are some *spoilers*. I thought that since Firo absorbed Slizard that he would remember all the things that Slizard had done. Because Firo is such an upbeat person these memories might give him nightmares. This fanfic is told in Ennis's POV because the two of them have lived together for 70 years. At the time this takes place Ennis and Firo are married and Czeslaw lives with them.
Firo lied in the bed that the two of them shared, tossing and turning. He was having another nightmare. This kind of thing didn't happen a lot, as Firo was a very upbeat person, but when it did it was like he was being tortured within his own head and she was powerless to stop it. The worst part of this was that the nightmares weren't his, they were of Slizard or of someone that he had devoured. Firo had never asked for this, in fact it was her fault, everthing that he did was to save her and now he is going through all this pain and suffering and she is powerless to help him.
This was not like when Czes has a nightmare, that is from personal experince but for Firo all the things that he is seeing are thing that other people have done and he is force to suffer through. Ennis gently stroke his hair as an effort to try and clam him down and thinks about how useless she feels. He has done everything for her, given her the world, and there is nothing her can do to help him.
His entire head is covered with sweat but still her wants to comfort him, even if it's just this tiny little thing. He wakes up gasping and she holds him in her arms until he relizes he's home, he's safe. She will never let anything happen because she will always be there to protect him, in the real world at least, that is the one thing that she can do for him. His arm wrap around her tightly.
After a few moments later he realies her saying "I'm sorry Ennis, did I keep you up?". A feeling of guilt creaps its way into her thoughts. Firo was always so kind and always thought of everyone else. "No, I was up anyway. Do you want to lay back down, I will talk to you until you fall asleep, if you'd like." That sounded like something that someone would need after a bad nights sleep although she had never had a chance to see if it really work because the only people she ever saw sleeping was Czes and Firo and there was no way that Czes would allow her to help him get back to sleep. It was childish or something.
Firo sat on the end of the day not bothering with his slipper or robe. He sighed and said "Nah, I'm just gonna go get something to eat. you go on back to bed and went you wake up I'll be there ok?". Ennis just smiled, that was not what she wanted but she would do what he asks for his sake.
Ennis layed back down, just as he had asked but she could not fall asleep. Her mind was racing, trying to figure a way to help him. Eventually she fell asleep and in the morning her was not there. Immedently she went to look for him and found him in the kitchen. He was cooking and when he saw her coming he turned around and said "Sorry hon, i didn't want to wake you and so i thought that i would go ahead and cook breakfast. 'morning Czes." Czeslaw walked through the kitchen looking just as tired as Firo, and herself for that matter.
Firo went on cooking breakfast and chating away like he was the happiest person in the world. For one person to carry the evil of Slizard and all the people that he has devoured and still be that happy was amazing. He was amazing in every way.
