Disclaimer: Don't own Rookie Blue (in case you hadn't figured that out yet!)
A.N. Thanks for all of the reviews on my other one-shots. They really inspire me to continue writing.
She jerks awake suddenly, the pain in her ribs almost blinding. She's about to cry out when she hears labored breathing.
Her eyes fly open and she turns her head slightly to glance over at him. She can tell he's in the middle of a nightmare and despite her own pain, she wants to be there for him. She gently rolls over until she's practically on top of him and frames his face with her hands. "Sam," she says softly, "wake up."
She continues to try to wake him, keeping her tone soothing. "It's okay Sam, I'm okay. Just open your eyes." She knows beyond a doubt that he's having a nightmare where she didn't make it out of that room alive.
Eventually she feels him start to wake. His eyes open and he looks at her. "Andy?" he questions, terror from his nightmare clear in his voice.
"I'm okay. It was just a dream."
He slowly pulls himself out of the dream and realizes that she is on top of him. He carefully shifts until she is on her back and he is hovering over her. "You okay?" he asks softly, trailing a gentle hand along her rib cage.
She nods, afraid that if she actually tries to voice an answer he will hear the pain in her voice.
Sam takes a deep breath. She uses that moment to push past the pain. "You wanna tell me about it?"
His eyes are bright with unshed tears, not that she'll comment on it (after his comment about the smoke, she realized that acknowledging the tears would be hard for him).
"You died," he whispers finally, losing the battle as a tear slides down his cheek.
She gently wipes the tear away. "I'm okay Sam. A little bruised, that's all. You're not getting rid of me that easily."
"Don't joke," he whispers, his voice raw. The dream was still so vivid.
"I'm sorry," she apologizes, pushing herself up slightly to press a gentle kiss to his lips.
"Andy," he warns, when she finally pulls away.
"Please Sam, it was too close today."
He knows what she wants, and honestly, it is what he wants, and needs after his nightmare. Slowly, and ever so gently, he starts to trail a line of kisses up her neck, feeling her body relax beneath him.
They both know this is not the last time one or both of them will jerk up in terror from a nightmare about the day's events, but they will get through it, together.
A.N. Sorry for the ending, I had the whole thing planned out right before I went to bed last night and cannot remember the ending I originally had.
Let me know what you think!
