Darkness. Screams. Blood.
The three words seem to continue in a vicious cycle; whenever there's darkness, there are screams. Whenever there are screams, there is blood. Whenever there is blood, there's darkness.
A low growl in the distance lets me know that it's almost time. I take a deep breath and prepare myself for what's to come, knowing I may or may not make it out alive.
My hand is on the doorknob, ready to open the door to a nightmare. "Tally, wait!"
He comes over to me in long strides. His lips are a mixture of warmth, desperation and fright as they meet mine. There's a silent knowledge lingering between us that this could be our last shared kiss.
I hear another low growl in the distance, causing me the kiss. "I have to go."
"Please," his eyes flutter closed, "you don't have to do this."
I squeeze my eyes shut at his words, which seem to pierce my heart with the sad, underlying tone of his voice.
"You know I do," it takes all I have to keep my voice from cracking. "You know that I have to."
He steps closer to me, nodding his head in understanding. "You're always saving everyone." I can feel his warm breath against my hair as he speaks. "When will someone get to save you?"
A smile takes over my frown as I turn to face him. "But you already have saved me."
A knock is heard once, twice, three times. That's the signal for me to know that it's time. I slowly back towards the door, leaving the only boy I've ever loved in the distance and approaching something I never thought would happen outside of horror movies.
A/N: Believe it or not, I take my readers' comments into consideration when writing! If you want the main character to date/be friends with/fight a specific character, leave it in the comments on any of the chapters and if I decide to go with your idea, you will get credit on the following chapter!
