Newt had just exited his enchanted suitcase in panic, and had proceeded to run around his small living room chasing around the escaping nifflers. The three dark baby creatures were frantically searching for shiny and valuable objects, ignoring everything they were knocking over during that search. Their mother, a fully grown adult niffler, was no better. She was helping them in their quest, producing more chaos than her youngs.
Newt very well knew this wasn't the last time this was going to happen. But the creatures were so energetic and happy when they were free he couldn't find it in his heart to cage them, or anything of the sort. Wasn't that his whole thing, after all? The freedom, care and rights of magical creatures?
As the mother niffler helped one of her babies knock over a flower vase, there was a knock on the door. Newt froze still. The same couldn't be said about the nifflers.
He figured it was most likely Bunty, who had left only about an hour ago. It wouldn't be the first time she returned after her night leave, claiming she had forgotten to get something.
He walked towards the door. Bunty would usually state her name before she was let in, but he thought she might be too tired, given the time.
He placed his injured hand -it was all fine, only the augurey didn't particularly feel like cooperating that evening- on the doorknoob, and opened the front door.
The slim woman with short dark hair and the most beautiful, sparkling eyes he had ever seen didn't resemble his assistant in the slightest. She stood on the doorstep reluctantly, waiting to be invited in. Newt froze for a bit, before realizing what exactly was happening.
The nifflers behind him were trying to destroying his house, while a -beautiful as ever, naturally- Tina Goldstein was watching from his doorstep.
"Perhaps I've chosen a wrong time, Mr Scamander?""No, not at all. Come in. Don't worry.", The woman walked in as he stepped back to give her space. Closing the door behind her, he ran back to the living room, were the mother niffler had found a shiny watch and the babies were fighting over it.
"Just a second." Newt told his guest as he turned around. "Wingardium Leviosa." The watch left the mother's hands and headed towards the suitcase, where Newt let it drop. The nifflers quickly ran towards it, and the suitcase finally closed when the last baby was out of sight.
After some swift "repairo"s, Newt finally turned around to face Tina, who was patiently sitting on a chair of the dining table watching the situation unfold in amusement."That was quite the show. Is everything okay?""Everything's marvellous." Newt responded awkwardly, making his way towards the table to join her.
She smiled at him, but quickly returned to her serious, "professional" look. Newt focused on the smile, which he shyly returned.
"I hope I'm not bothering you at this time of night." Tina said apologetically. "MACUSA sent me here, work needs to be done with the british Ministry Of Magic. I thought I'd pay you a visit. I've got some jet lag from the trip, perhaps I didn't realize how late it was.""Oh, that's fine. I wasn't sleeping, as you see". Newt responded, steadily getting more used to her presence in the house.
"Yes, clearly you were busy with the...the nifflers.""They can be troublesome...Though it's not their fault they want to explore..." Tina gave him a warm look. Her eyes had an equally warm vibe. They were dark, but Newt could swear flames were coming out of them. It was like fire in water. He'd only ever seen that in...
"Well, then. Welcome. Tina.""Good to see you again, Mr Sc-...Newt."
