A/N: I haven't posted a LotR fanfic in a while, but I'm back, and now that it's summer, I'll have lots of time to write. This happens to be my first humor fic, so a review with thoughts and constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
Disclaimer: I do not own LotR
"Now, why exactly would a dwarf have use for a bow and arrow when he can use an axe?"
Legolas had invited Gimli to Mirkwood for a week, and he had taken the dwarf out to the archery grounds.
"Come on, Gimli, it will be fun. I want to teach you how to shoot."
The dwarf folded his arms and shook his head stubbornly. "I have a decent amount of respect for elves, thanks to you, but I will not stoop as low as to even hold a bow."
"You're already low enough, it couldn't hurt to try," Legolas replied, smirking.
It took Gimli a moment to figure out that the elf was insulting his small stature, and he took on an expression of annoyance. "So this is how it's going to be, is it, laddie? Going to be making fun of me, are you?" He firmly set down his axe and wrenched Legolas' bow and quiver from his hands.
"Why do you insist upon calling me 'laddie' as if I was younger than you? I am farther along in both years and maturity than you are."
"I strongly disagree with the latter part of that statement," Gimli grumbled, struggling to nock an arrow to the string with his stubby fingers.
Legolas leaned over his shoulder. "Perhaps you may want to try a smaller-"
"I can handle it, Legolas," Gimli hissed. He finally managed to fit the arrow to the string and pulled it back as far as his arms would let him. It was a very comical sight, seeing as the bow was more than half the size of Gimli himself. He released the bowstring with a triumphant expression, but it soon morphed into one of frustration as the arrow made an impressive arc in the air only to stick itself into the ground only six feet away from where they were standing.
Legolas chuckled, but his amusement soon faded away when Gimli turned upon him with a murderous look in his eyes.
"I will not be mocked by a pointy-eared prince who thinks he can best me!" Gimli snatched another arrow from the quiver and prepared to shoot again, this time aiming high up in the air. The arrow sped straight up into the sky, then came plummeting down towards Legolas' face. The elf moved to the side just in time, but the arrow got caught in his hair, sending him into a state of panic as he flailed around in an attempt to maintain the flawlessness of his braids.
Gimli enjoyed this spectacle very much and was soon roaring with laughter. After regaining his composure, a very vexed Legolas suggested that there be no more archery for the day.
Hope you all enjoyed! Again, please leave a review.
