Disclaimer: I own nothing! (So wish I did though)
I walked into the office with a spring in my step and a smile on my face, my daughter, who had been in Rome for the last four months, was finally coming home. I couldn't wait too see her and I was sure nothing could ruin this day for me absolutely nothing.
After hours of non stop fidgeting my wife finally called to tell me her plane had landed, naturally I threw the phone down and ran out the building, hoping the people I knocked over didn't sue, ah who gives a damn my daughter's home!Driving in my car I remembered how we would spend hours dancing in the backyard, dancing with her daddy was her favourite thing ever.
"Daddy come dance with me!" my six year old daughter called from outside. I walked to the backdoor and smiled at the sight of her dressed in her ballerina outfight smiling brightly at me.
" Daddy dance with me!" she repeated. I ran over to her and scooped her up in my arms spinning her round while she giggled madly.
"What shall we dance today madam?" I asked in a ridiculous British accent.
"Hmmmm…WALTZ!!" she finally decided.
"Waltz it is." I began dancing around the backyard with her still in my arms and still giggling.
"I love you daddy… you're the bestest person in the whole wide world" she told me her eyes shining, looking cuter than ever.
"I love you too princess" I said and kissed her forehead getting another giggle.
"You will always be the only boy in my life daddy"
Snapping out of my daydream I pulled into my driveway more than excited to see her. She was twenty-three now but was still my little girl, and I was still the only man in her life…that's what I thought anyway. I rushed in and was greeted by my wife who had a wide smile to match mine.
" Is she here? where is she?…did she land ok?" I was full of questions and my wife just looked kindly at me; she knew how excited I was.
"Yes she's here, she's just upstairs unpacking a few things"
"God I've missed her so much, I can't wait to see my little girl," I said and my wife just smiled at me again.
"Dad?" I turned at the sound of my daughters voice and for one moment in my life I was speechless. She was glowing, her long blonde hair was in soft curls, and her big chocolate brown eyes were shining, she looked like an angel. She ran down the stairs and I caught her in a hug, spinning her round in my arms just like old times. Putting her down again I stepped backwards so I could fully see her.
" Sharpay… look at you, I can't believe this is the same little girl that used to beg me to dance with her and play with her dolls… I've missed you so much!"
" I missed you too Dad and hey don't think just because I'm older I'm not gonna make you dance with me!" she smiled and I just laughed.
My wife suggested we go to the living room to sit since she already had tea made.
"So how was Rome?" I asked once we had sat down.
" Oh, it was amazing the places, the people, everything… and actually I have something to tell you… something important" she said still smiling but suddenly becoming a bit nervous, I couldn't help but notice.
"What is it sweetie?" My wife asked with some concern but still with her usual soft smile none the less.
Sharpay looked down and played wit her thumbs, " Well… uhhh you see… I sort of met somebody." She looked up with the same soft smile she inherited from her mother, the one my wife used when talking to me, the one associated with love. "He's twenty three as well and we were both at the same place one night… then we started talking and he took me to dinner… we kept going out together after that and well… we're engaged!" Sharpay exclaimed with a huge loving smile.
I was dumbstruck.
