"Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered..." Her eyes skimmed over the handwritten words in delight and her fingers gently stroked the edge of the old pages. The pictures swam in her head of fiery demons and stone castles – of ballrooms and dancing. "...I move the stars for no-one..." She had studied the old book for a long time and never once did it bore her. She read on some more until she came to the page she always came to. The words she hardly dared to read. She looked towards the door she knew she had locked and then towards the window she had bolted shut. Tonight was the night. Tonight she would say the words. With a quick lick of the lips she took in a shallow breath and let it out again. "I wish...I wish the goblin king would come and take me away...right now". For a moment there was nothing but silence, and then the window blew open. She leapt from her bed and backed away as a large barn owl swooped into the bedroom and circled above her head. She ducked when the bird glided too low and raised her arms when the creature did one final dip before disappearing into the mess of her curtains. As she lowered her arms a figure emerged into the moonlight and stood towering over her. With a smirk he produced a crystal ball and held it out in front of her.
"You could of asked a long time ago you know" And with a quick blow the crystal exploded into a shower of glitter and Jareth, the goblin king of the labyrinth, took the young Williams girl into his arms and transported them both to the labyrinth.
