Author's Notes: This story was heavily inspired by the DBZ Fanfic "Guardian" by Mr Arkham, but I'm pretty certain he's dead, but just let it be known that any all ideas that happen to appear in both of our fics are because he made those ideas first, so all credit goes to him.
So what is this fic? It's mostly a summarization of ideas I had. See, I'm a guy who wants to write stories...but I don't want to WRITE, you know? Prose is a nightmare, and the thought of making some absurdly long novel length series with hundreds of thousands of words...yeah, no.
So I'm not going to write prose. Instead, I'm going to tell you all my ideas, and I'll hope you guys are interested enough in reading them.
Once upon a time, Kami was chilling on the lookout.
Then a spaceship crashed into it.
So Kami, having nothing better to do, decides "Fuck it, I'll investigate the spaceship that crashed into my lookout."
And so he did.
And it was here he discovered an adorable baby...with a tail. And so Kami thought "Eh, fuck it, I'll raise him."
And so he did.
And his name was...~~JOHN CENA~~ Goku. Why? Fuck you, that's why, it's convenient for the plot.
Now, this child might have been cute, but it was also angry. Really angry. And rowdy. And a pain.
Also, it had the bad habit of transforming into a giant rampaging ape during the full moon.
That's how Goku lost his tail.
But fear not, young readers, for Goku didn't wind up murdering Kami and then the rest of humanity, because his aggression was carefully managed under the kind, careful, gentle, nurturing, patient parenting of Kami.
God bless his soul. Kami bless his soul. Bless his soul.
So Goku grew up to be a pretty polite, respectful, intelligent, well adjusted kid...and powerful. Really powerful. Stupidly powerful.
Now you see, Kami was a nice guy, but he could admit that the Lookout was dull. Really dull. He also knew Goku loved fighting, perhaps a little too much, but he had a good, pure heart, and he wanted nothing more than to use his power for good.
But hey, teens be teens. Sometimes they want to watch people beat the crap out of each other.
And that was the story of why Goku was allowed to watch the World Martial Arts Tournament.
But let's go back a bit.
One day, a blue haired teenage girl was traveling through the mountains on her motorcycle, on a quest for the mythical Dragon Balls, when she came across an old man in the woods.
Naturally, she shot him in the face.
The bullet didn't do much damage, so the girl kept pulling the trigger until she ran out of bullets. The old man caught them all. It was pretty cool, actually, but Bulma (Yes it's Bulma) was an idiot so she screamed something like "Ah oh no this pervy old man is going to have his way with me in the forest ah help ahhh."
But then the two talked. Turns out the old man - Gohan - was actually a pretty chill guy. He also had a Dragon Ball, which was the girl was looking for.
So the two went back to his house, had a nice dinner, and Gohan realized Bulma, despite being one of the most intelligent people on the planet, was also an idiot.
Who builds a device to track down mystical wish granting objects to wish for a boyfriend?
But she had a good heart, she just needed some wisdom and guidance, so Gohan thought, "Fuck it, I'll go with her on her journey, what's the worst that could happen?"
And so he did.
Not long after, the mystical wish granting objects were gathered, and with it, a magical wish granting Dragon was summoned.
It was used to wish for panties.
On the bright side, Bulma got a boyfriend without wishing for one, so that was pretty neat.
You see, this boyfriend was a dastardly, cowardly bandit named Yamcha. Gohan's first meeting with the lad involved Yamcha trying to kill him with his sword while Bulma screamed in terror and pleaded for Gohan to not die, but hey, he wasn't a bad guy at all!
He had potential. Power. And more importantly, a good heart, so Gohan taught him about martial arts. Yamcha quickly took to his teachings, and two swiftly bonded. The relationship would be akin to that of father and son. Or grandfather and son, but that's not important.
But Gohan couldn't teach Yamcha everything he knew, so he pointed him in the direction of Gohan's old master - the Turtle Hermit Roshi.
And that's how they met Master Roshi. And Launch. And Krillin. And Chi-Chi. It was a very slippery slope of meeting people and adventure.
Awhile later, the World Martial Arts Tournament came around the corner.
Now on this planet, the World Martial Arts Tournament was hosted by the Emperor Chiaotzu. Why? Cause fuck Chiaotzu I'm not going to bother dealing with him.
It was also watched over by his menacing bodyguard, Tenshinhan, and his master the Crane Hermit.
And by Goku, who finally got to true warriors battle.
Really, if one paid attention, they would think the Tournament was about Yamcha's journey as a warrior.
In the Semi-Finals he bested his rival Krillin, which earned their mutual respect and friendship, and finally knocked some humbleness into Krillin's head.
In the Finals, Yamcha fought against his mentor, his father figure, Gohan.
Poor Bulma didn't know who to root for, Gohan was her (Grand)father figure to.
It was a very epic battle, and Yamcha almost threw it, not wanting to harm his master, but encouragement from Bulma, from Gohan himself, and Goku in the crowds encouraged him to truly tap into his inner power, his confidence, and Yamcha defeated Gohan.
Gohan was proud. Bulma was proud. Yamcha was proud. All in all, it was pretty neat.
The final match of the Tournament pitted Yamcha against Jackie Chun.
Yamcha lost.
But it was a good fight, Yamcha was a good fighter, just not good enough to defeat Master Roshi...who was disguised as Jackie Chun. Plot twist.
This was Goku's first encounter with these group of warrior friends - The Z Fighters - but it certainly wouldn't be the last.
Many years later, some plot bullshit I don't want to come up with involving Emperor Chiatzu and Shen being an asshole or whatever happens at the next World Martial Arts Tournament, which Goku of course goes to watch.
The final battle of the tournament is between Yamcha and Tenshinhan. There would be a really interesting plot behind this and surrounding Tien, Chiaotzu, and Shen, but I'm too lazy to come up with right now, this is a DBZ Fanfic anyway, it's not important.
Long story short, Tien Kikoho's the arena, but Yamcha has the last laugh, using the Wolf Fang Fist to propel himself through the air and batter Tien and knocking him down into the arena.
Yamcha wins.
Not long after, the Demon King Piccolo returns, his minion Tambourine nearly killing Krillin before being stopped by the Z-Fighters.
And Goku.
Knowing something is up, Goku takes the Z-Fighters to Kami, who not only tells them about Piccolo, but begins to train and prepare them to battle the Demon King.
Long story short, they nearly fail. King Piccolo summons the Eternal Dragon and wishes for his youth back, then destroys it.
Emperor Chiaotzu is dethroned and killed by the Demon King.
Roshi gives his life to use the Evil Containment Wave, but tragically fails.
Gohan gives his own life to allow his students: Yamcha, Tien, and Krillin, to escape with their friends.
And where had Goku been?
Refusing to fight.
Upon learning the truth of the Demon King, Goku had refused to battle him, as he knew killing him would result in the death of Kami, the Guardian who raised him since the day we was born.
Selfish? Absolutely. But Kami is the only person Goku has ever loved.
But as the Z-Fighters are dying, giving their lives fighting a helpless battle, as Shenron is destoyed, Kami reveals the truth to Goku.
That he came from a space. That as a child, he was angry and destructive.
But that he's more than that. He had become so much more than. He is among the most powerful beings on the planet, but with that power must come great responsibility.
Goku must be Earth's new Guardian.
Goku sheds tears as he accepts Kami's request, and then goes to battle the Demon King.
It is a long battle.
As the Demon King unleashed his Explosive Demon Wave, hell bent on destroying the Guardian's attempt to stop him, Goku unleashes his Kamehameha Wave.
After a particularly badass (But heartbreaking) beam struggle, Kami telepathically tells Goku "Its okay", and Goku, tears in his eyes, roars and unleashes his power, overwhelming the Demon King for the people of Earth.
As the Demon King dies, he spits out an egg, his son, his reincarnation. Goku let's him, because it means Kami can survive.
But then Goku does something rather strange.
He takes the egg with him.
Kami is alive, shocked at the turn of events. He restores the Dragon Balls. The Z-Fighters undo the damage caused by the Demon King.
And then the egg hatches.
Goku and Kami try to appeal to Piccolo. After all, Kami raised Goku and he turned out all right, how hard can Piccolo be?
Really hard.
They are only able to contain Piccolo by giving him a promise: Goku and Piccolo will battle each other in the next World Martial Arts Tournament.
Until then, Piccolo is free to be on the Lookout and explore Earth whenever he wishes, but he is not allowed to cause any harm to Earth's inhabits.
Should he do so, Goku will kill him.
Piccolo agreed, not having any choice.
Goku and Kami try to reach out to him, of course. Tell him that there's more to life, that he can choose he wants to be.
Piccolo ignores them, but their words stay in his head.
Come the next World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku, having spent the three years training with Kami, kindly greets the Z-Fighters, and they catch up on old times.
They also reunite with Chi-Chi, so that's pretty neat. She hits it off with Goku and the Z-Fighters, and becomes part of their friend group, is invited to their group chat, all that.
Long story short, the Final Four are Goku, Piccolo, Yamcha, and Tien. Yamcha and Tien are defeated by the other two, leaving Goku and Piccolo to have their rematch.
Piccolo loses.
He's pissed.
Piccolo swears vengeance, that he will destroy Goku and conquer the World. Goku promises him that he will always be there to stop Piccolo...but he will always be there to help him.
Goku offers Piccolo his hand. He looks at it, then flies away.
The world remained at peace for several years.
Gohan, assuming he didn't choose to stay dead following his first death, likely passes away during these peaceful days, having spent the final years of his life at peace.
Yamcha, Bulma, Roshi, and the other Z-Fighters shed tears for the kind old man that guided them when they neeeded it most, and smile at the memories they had with him, and the thought that he's at peace.
Honestly, if he stayed alive, he'd be regulated to the sidelines. Sorry Gohan.
Every once in awhile, Goku finds Piccolo to talk to him about life. Piccolo swears revenge every time.
The Z-Fighters continue to train and be friends. Every once in awhile, they ally with Goku and Piccolo in some elaborate team up to take down a villain, like the diabolical Garlic Jr, or the despicable Doctor Wheelo.
Each time, Goku said that he always enjoyed their teamups. Each time, Piccolo swears vengeance.
All in all, life was pretty good.
Until one day, another Saiyan Pod crashed into the lookout.
Author's Notes:
What will happen next? Who is this mysterious new arrival? How will Goku handle him? Find out next time, ON DRAGON BALL Z!
So that was the first chapter. Establishes stuff, goes over Dragon Ball, which is ultimately not that important because it's a DBZ Fic, not a DB Fic. Chiaotuz is Emperor because I don't want to deal with him, he's essentially replaced King Furry, who is equally as useless and unimportant anyway.
So let me tell you what's going to happen in this Fic:
Goku is being trained to be the next Guardian of Earth, which will radically change the plot...or will it? Dun dun dun.
I'm going to completely change some of the power level and scaling system. Fair warning, I'm going to drop it by the end of the Namek Saga, but I'll keep it around for now. I intend to balance the power levels of this universe, as well as make the non Saiyan (Non-Goku really...) characters within the same league. So if you're a fan of Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, even Chi-Chi, or at the very least you always wanted to see the human fighters be relevant, then this Fic is for you.
Also, I'm not really a fan of Super and I don't really keep up with it, so I'm more likely than not going to add anything in Super into this story, so don't worry about that. Why?
I grew up in a time before Battle of the Gods, and all the stuff before that (Save for GT and some movies like Bio-Broly) I really liked, and a lot of people were able to make really good fanfics and rewrites with that system. But now Super has been introduced, and it makes the power scaling worse, makes other characters irrelevant, adds a bunch of new stuff that makes older ideas we thought of canon as wrong...ect. I never really connected with it in the way I did with the old DBZ. It's comparable to Star Wars post Disney when they turned the EU into Legends and started pumping out a lot of new stuff which I never really got attached to. But I'll save those rants for any future Star Wars stuff I write.
And finally, I promise not to make these author's Notes too long unless I'm explaining some post story things, but considering my lack of prose, I'll probably wind up explaining it all anyway. Eh. It's not about the quality of writing, I think it's about the ideas and the passion behind it. But hey, if some poor fool wants to actually write prose of this, they're free to do so...as long as you ask permission. Same goes for my ideas. As long as you ask for permission and credit me, I'm fine with using them.
