In the highlands of Scotland
A girl with long red hair
Her name was Merida
She was a skilled archer
Daughter to the king
A long time ago
When Princess Merida
Was still a wee girl
Practising with her bow
A giant demon bear attacked
Its name was Mor'du
Thankfully the princess
Escaped without harm
Now Merida is grown
Sister to triplets
She refuses to be betrothed
Defying custom
Earning her mother's warning
To remember the prince who
Refused to marry;
He brought destruction
Upon his kingdom
The day arrived, the start of
The Highland Games, competing
Against the clans' firstborn sons
To win Merida's hand
Merida reasoned that she
Herself, as firstborn
Should be allowed to compete
For her own hand in marriage
Needless to say, her mother
Disagreed and they quarreled
Merida took a
Drastic action, she damaged
Her family tapestry
Runs off into the woods
Asking help from a
Wood carver, in truth a witch
A cake given, promising
Her mother's transformation
When the queen ate the cake
She turned into a bear
They return to the woods
Where the witch's cottage
Lies empty and deserted
A riddle left by the witch
To mend the bond torn by pride
By the second sunrise
Before the queen remains
A bear forever
They make peace between
Mother and daughter
They find out Mor'du was
The prince of legend
Victim to the same spell
Given by the witch
Perhaps the way to undo
The spell, was to sew back
Her family tapestry
They return to the castle
Merida makes peace
Between quarreling clans
Queen Elinor loses
Consciousness of herself
Attacking her husband
She then runs out, given chase
Her brothers change into bears
After eating the cake
Sewing back the tapestry
She and her brothers
Ride after her father
Her mother is captured
But they intervene
Just then Mor'du attacks
The queen lures him in a trap
He is killed by falling stone
The prince's spirit is set free
Then with trepidation
Merida drapes the
Tapestry over
Her beloved mother
Moments passed by but
The awaited return of
Her mother's and siblings'
Human form did not appear
Heartbroken, she bursts into
Tears; but love and forgiveness
Has a peculiar way
Of working its magic
Her mother and brothers
Transform back to human form
Their family is
Reunited once more
