Sometimes friendship hits you
like a freight train,
in the dead of the night
and faster than you can say 'no'
It calls to you
as softly as the sound of a child
lures its parent
She leans against the house
that raised her,
taught her of the wonders of the world,
worried for her
and in some odd ways encouraged her
yet she didn't think of any of that now,
all she could feel was the nervous beating of her heart,
She stood tall,
trying to pretend to be unafraid
Prejudices take time to conquer
and even though she had hope that they'd not see danger
when they met her best friend,
as they'd moved on before
She knew bringing on unknown fox home
to introduce to her family
was as nervewracking and dangerous
as they come.
