Kiss and Say Goodbye.

The wind blew softly in her chocolate curls and she watched him sitting with her. It chilled her to the bone to think that at one point that was her sitting beside him, laughing and acting like their pasts didn't matter. But she had made a choice, a choice that cost her everything she held dear. Sawyer, the easy way out. A con and a fugitive are one in the same in the eyes of society but in her heart he held a place much different then Jack did. Sawyer didn't judge her, he took her as she was, with all of her baggage intact. But Jack wanted to help her, make her a better person than she thought she could be and sometimes it was their downfall. Sometimes she just wanted to be herself and Jack didn't love her as she was, he loved the idea of her being something different.

She was in love with two men, and neither were helping her in anyway. Sawyer wanted her to stay the same, to just be her fragile self. She used to be independent, didn't need any man to protect her, and now she had to depend on two of them.

A sudden voice from behind her drew her from her thoughts, the heavy accent in it telling her exactly who she was speaking with. "They have her prisoner, Locke and the other's. If we go back, we can convince him to let us talk to Ben and maybe neogtiate letting Charlotte come with us..." Sayid was standing not far from her but Kate's eyes were still trained on the man in front of her. She gave him a slight nod before picking up her backpack off of the ground beside her and placing it on her back. "I'll come with you, Jack will want to stay here, most likely with her, but he'll want to know that we've left. I'll talk to him.." The last was almost a reassurance to herself, more so then a comment to Sayid. She needed to forget everything and at least say goodbye to him.

Juliet looked up as Kate approached, and almost as if she could read Kate's mind, she stood and excused herself from Jack's presence. Kate say a look of almost sheer disappointment on Jack's face when Juliet left but to her pleasure it changed when he saw her approach. He was a complex man to understand, that she got. It didn't matter how many times she hurt him or decieved him, he still looked at her like she was his world and everytime he did, it killed her. She couldn't bare to think of everything she put him through, and she knew that now that he'd admitted that he loved her, everything would be elevated.eee

"Jack, Sayid thinks we should go to the barracks. Charlotte is there and he thinks if we explain that their here for Ben, he'll let her go and maybe let us talk to Ben." She paused for a moment, waiting to see the realization of what was coming next in his eyes. He shook his head before she even had the chance to tell him she was going with Sayid.

"He doesn't need anyone other than himself and Miles, Kate. You don't always have to be the first one off when someone needs help..." but he trailed off, knowing that he would never win the battle. She was always going to do what she wanted, no matter what he said, and as much as it hurt him, it was why he loved her. "Just, be careful, okay?"

Kate couldn't help but laugh as he repeated what she had said to him when she stole his phone. Jack stepped forward and gently placed his lips against hers, almost causing Kate to step back in shock. A small smile formed on her lips when he finally stepped to the side of her and whispered into her ear. "I swear I didn't take anything." She looked into his deep brown eyes and couldn't help but laugh.

"See you around..." She gave a nod before she backed up and walked back to where she had dropped her backpack. She gave one last longing look towards him before turning to Sayid and following him away.
