"It's not that you aren't doing a good job, you just look too young!"
That was what Jinx Otieno heard ever since she entered the police
force. Sure, she was only 23, but that wasn't the problem. The problem
was that she looked like she was still in high-school.She looked up at
her supervisor with her deep brown eyes that looked tired from lack of
sleep. He was going to fire her. She knew it. Her golden hair was
messily brushed, just to keep it out of the way. It cascaded onto her
shoulders like a waterfall upon rock, and even though she was running
on empty for the past few days, she still looked pretty damn good. Jinx
rubber her eye with the back of her hand tiredly, sitting in the chair
before his desk, ready for the worst, almost blocking it out.
"... And that's why I want you to be in the Jump Street program." he finished in his steely voice. She half-jumped and looked around in confusion.
"Wha? Sorry I um... spaced out for a second. I'll go give back my gun." She muttered, grinning sheepishly before almsot getting up to leave, her face at once turning grim. He stopped her.
'What are you talking about? I was talking about a program you could go into. Keep your gun." Her boss said hurriedly, motioning for her to sit down, simultaneously handing her a piece of paper with the address of Jump Street Chapel written on it. "You'll do well in Jump Street Chapel. I'm sure of it." He added. Jinx took the paper, looking at it with interest, relief washing over her as her job was still secure. She looked back up at him, grinning.
"Right on! I'll give it a try, thanks!" She pactically yelled, standing up. "I mean um... Thank you sir." She added, in a more formal tone. Her boss just shook his head, smiling.
"We're really going to miss you back in the station, but you'll be better off." He said, absentmindedly running a hand through his thinning hair, long since turned grey. Jinx nodded.
"I guess I'd better be going." She said, standing up and straightening her uniform, absentmindedly thinking how annoying it was.
"Oh. You won't be needing that uniform anymore. Keep it somewhere safe." He said, knowing she would be pleased to hear that, since she had complained about it nonstop when she first got it. Then she did something unlike the serious cop she made herself out to be, she gave him a hug. She turned to go, in her mind she was screaming "Yes!", another half of her was screaming profanities.
