You're shivering again

No I'm not, how would you know?

I'm part of you, I always know.

She turned, looked into the mirror; faced herself. The taunting voice returned as it always did.

You know you're afraid. It's ringing, can't you hear it? Come now little mouse, answer it! Answer it!

She looked at the impatient phone blinking wildly, the caller ID barely visible from the dying battery:

110-3232-98

Pastors

A quick cringe seized her. Not this time, not this time.

You fool! That was him! You are useless!

No, you're just impatient. I don't want to talk to him.

But you know it don't you? He really is the right one...isn't he?

The ringing had ceased, and no message was left. She knew he wouldn't. His message was too important for her answering machine.

Silence raged like a hidden fury through her house. And the waiting seemed eternal. But it started again, the ringing, blinking she knew all too well.

But God had spared her this one time, this one time. It was not him. her little ID clearly read:

111-3234-99

-Unavailable-

Without hesitation she picked it up, the voice she knew so well greeting her frightened face.

"Jess? that you?"

"Yea its me. What are you doing calling this late?"

"I can't sleep."

She'd heard this too many times. Always the same. Terry suffered from insomnia. He knew it. She knew it.

"Did you take your Ambien?"

"No. I just wanted you to know something before I did."

She wondered. What could it be? What did he want? Could it be that...

"You should answer that call Jess. Just do it."

She hung her head. Terr had only called on his behalf. That him that she forever had become victim. Gripped with fear. Wrought with worry. Always awaiting...that call. And so it came again. Blinking frenzied as if begging for he rto just pick...up..that...call...

"Hello?"

"Jess?"

"Yea it's me."

"I need to ask you something."

Her heart stopped. She wanted to die, hide, crawl somewhere dark and never rise again. The tension lasted forever.

"Y-yes?"

"Do you love me?"

She hated her silence..the fear took full control, gripping her body until all her senses were lost amid a wash of fear and excitement.

"I...well...I just.."

She couldn't do it.

Oh but you can...it's been 4 long years...he knows just as well as you do...just say it..

"I do. I love you. I love you dearly..."

Her voice came in painful breaths. She was suprised by her confidence. And then the worst blow of all..

"I love you too. I want you Jess. I want you now. Meet me in 5 minutes."

She was too scared to speak. Nothing but her walls covered in flowers and bows to comfort her. She was out the door before she could stop, and her heart farther ahead.
