Disclaimer: First fanfic in a long time so be nice. And I don't own Twilight, sadly, otherwise I'd be on a tropical island right now in the sun.

Enjoy!

She Knows

In their relationship Emmett believes there are no secret between him and his wife but there is one thing she cannot tell even him. Something only Carlisle knows of, and Edward believes he understands but Rosalie would never let him hear the whole truth, the pain she feels. Instead she barrages him with thoughts of vanity, pride and beauty- her attempt to mask her inner turmoil. Rosalie wishes she could forget about it, deny knowledge of its existence but she has no way to escape it- no ability to sleep and forget it in the loneliest hours of the night. Instead she chooses the nearest method of escape, seeking solace in the arms of the one man she truly loves- he whispers into her hair, sweet nothings that momentarily soothe her. He believes he knows what causes her pain; watching all the humans around her, but he's wrong and deep inside she knows the truth would break him.

Laughter comes from the little girl sitting on her lap, letting her Aunt make her into a princess for the day; dressing her in fine gowns of velvet and silk, placing a tiara on her copper curls. But as soon as she has a moment with her Niece, the girl's Mother pulls her away to spend time with the boy who she will be destined to be with one day. Rosalie can only watch from a distance, watch the little girl she wishes belonged to her and Emmett grow up before her eyes. Her first steps, first word, Rosalie has been there for all of them, watching from the sidelines sharing in the highs and lows of the child as gets older. Aging. It's only natural, yet Rosalie was denied that choice, eternally eighteen, eternally beautiful and eternally broken. There never were any feelings of hate for her newest Sister, contrary to what Bella believed, just thoughts that the girl was making the biggest mistake of her life. Giving life up for immortality. Yet she did it and got everything Rosalie ever wanted and more, she knows she should love her newest Sister but instead Rose cannot get past the ebbing jealousy under the surface.

She knows given the option she would give it all up; the wealth, her looks, her family and even Emmett for another chance at humanity. Even with the secret she has held on to for 76 years she knows she would give it all up for that second chance. Would it grow and develop? She doesn't know. Would she love it, despite knowing the truth behind its conception? Yes, with all her heart and being. For she knows that deep inside her is the constant reminder of that April night in 1933. The one thing she cannot tell Emmett about...the bundle of cells in her womb, forever frozen at three days old, the child Rosalie Hale can never as yet is hers.
