[Tuesday, mysterious PUB, 9:00 pm]

Waluigi...That name might sound very familiar to all of you. He is a racer, golfer, tennis player, soccer stud, volleyball champ, and a party maniac. All of these sportsmanship traits can describe him perfectly...except for one; a fighter. At first, he was an assist fighter in the brawl tournament a few years back, back then, he was happy, but a bit sad that he couldn't join his pals in the beat 'em up the competition. In the second tournament, again an assist character. Oh well, third times a charm eh? EH? Well no, for he was once again an assist fighter. Alongside with some other fan favorites, this is where our story begins, at a lonely pub located in the lower part of the smash mansion.

A lanky purple-overalls with a nice stache, known as Waluigi, sat their tears running down his eyes and checks. With a shot of some alcohol, he gulped it down like nothing, placing a rather concerning amount of other shot glasses on a pile.

"Why?..." Waluigi slowly cried out with his tears, "This is the 3rd time I was rejected to be promoted, WHY DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND?"

He slammed down the table with the face of his hand, wiping the tears off his face, "I don't need a game to be a fighter, there are some many chumps that don't even star in one!"

"S-s-same here!" Shadow sluggishly spoke out, sitting right next to him, was seen chugging a bottle of Whiskey, feeling the same pain as Waluigi "And I even appeared in most of Sonic's games! Life isn't a fair man!"

"You have it the easy way!" Isaac, sitting right next to Shadow eating a delightful salad on his plate, "I get called back just to be an assist trophy again!? This is just cruel on how are they treating us!"

Waluigi nodded, while he pulled out his wallet to reveal a credit card, "Why...why does out of all of us! Did they put Isabelle? SHE ONLY APPEARED IN 3 GAMES!"

He tossed the card at the bartender to pay for his drinks. Shadow was still at the bar drinking his sorrows away, "That innocent dog has no unique moves rather than using a broom and a secretary! While me, well I am a perfect fit for Smash! I am Ultimate life form damn it! and yet I can't be in the Ultimate Smash tournament!"

Waluigi, Shadow, and Isaac were very steamed after not being promoted into a fighter. With a few more minutes at the bar, he got back the check and his card and decided to go back to his cruddy room from the assist fighters hall. The rooms were small cubical areas with a door for the entrance and bathroom. It's usually fine for most of them but since Waluigi was a very tall lad, it was very difficult to navigate inside it as he crouched down on his knees a bit and went laying on his bed. The bed too, was a bit too short for him as most of his legs up to his knees were hanging.

As you see, Waluigi doesn't have a very happy life, always out of the spotlight and left out. With most of his pals with their own games and own personalities, Waluigi was left in the shadows forgotten. Alongside his buddies Shadow and Isaac.

On a small shelf, there were small pictures of him and Wario smiling and grinning. The long table held his variety of trophies from winning the sports tournaments back at the mushroom kingdom. Another one holding a large trophy for the kart race he had.

Waluigi was heard complaining about the assist fighters that were promoted on the spot, "Little mac got in! Dark Samus got in! Isabelle got in! I mean Isabelle for all people! And she ain't even an echo of the Villiger! It's not fair! she betrayed us! us damn it! I just wanna stomp that innocent little face if I had the cha-"

"KEEP QUIET YOU!" aloud feminine scream was heard behind the wall next to Waluigi's dorm room.

Waluigi then toned it down a bit and decided to turn in for the day. Covering himself with his bed sheet, placing his hat on the nightstand, and crying to sleep as he whimpered all night. The next morning, he got up, still with dry tears on his check. Turning on the tv for some news lying they're still hopeless. After some commentary of weather, he got up and hit the shower in his room. After getting some clean overalls and a new hat, he stayed in his room for the time being. Until a knock can be heard from his door, he got up again and answered the door. It appears to be someone he knows as he looked downwards to reveal Isabelle with her smile.

"Morning Waluigi!" Isabelle greeted him with the most precious smile she made, "You wanna have a break-"

*SLAM*

The door slammed right in front of her, giving her a bit of fright. For Waluigi had ignored her entirely, she tried to answer him again.

"Come on! please come out, let's hang out like we use to!" she offered him.

"Sorry!" Waluigi's grumpy voice echoed between the door, "We don't talk to traitors like yourself! now go away!"

"Aw come on! just because I'm a fighter now doesn't mean I should stop seeing you!" cried out the secretary's voice.

He once again opened the door once more, to reveal his tennis racket being waved back at her, "I'm not mad because you were promoted to a fighter! I'm mad that THEY CHOSE YOU! I've been here for years! and yet I was rejected! you will now be the most hated person of all assist trophy kind!"

"But, you can't just-"

"GO AWAY!"

Poor Isabelle screamed out by the cranky lanky fella, walking away sadden and depressed. She started to try to hang out with her old assist trophy buddies, but as soon as she was promoted, they instantly shunned her with no regrets, especially Waluigi.

[Cafe hall]

The cafe was very busy with many fighters in many different seats, the one we will focus on is where most of the princesses sat at. Their, they enjoyed some morning breakfast and having little chats and gossips around each other. When Isabelle entered the table, she was still shaken up by Waluigi slamming the door right n front of her. Her mind was still fresh on what Waluigi had said to her

"Sorry, I don't talk to traitors like you! now go away!"

"Yo Isabelle," Daisy interrupted her inner thoughts with a plate of pancakes on her arm, "Wanna try some of this?"

"Um...no thanks," her monotone expression denied the pancakes from her.

"What's wrong, you sick or something?" the princess was pushing herself to know the truth of her worrying.

"Say, what do you feel about Waluigi?" the secretary asked her out loud.

"Huh? Waluigi?" Daisy raised her suspicion up a bit, "Why the sudden question?"

"Well, I just met with him this morning, and he kinda acts very grumpy and mad, especially to me," Isabelle explained

Daisy quickly placed the plate on the table and proceeded to share info about him, "Well, he's probably angry at the fact you got promoted to a fighter and not him. He's a bit of a mess when It comes to these competitions. But why would you bring this up?"

Isabelle got up from her pouting and answered her, "Yeah, you see I tried to say morning to him, then he just slammed the door right in front of me,"

"Well that's what happens when you get promoted from being an assist trophy" Daisy explained to her, making most of the girls to stop and look towards them for a split sec then went back to their gossiping, "First, they become friendly to you and now they don't wanna ever speak your name ever again,"

"Huh, why?" Isabelle was questioning the reason why Waluigi has no friends, "He should be proud of me! why is he being but hurt?

"I mean, if you would be in his shoes, you might be able to understand," Daisy scratched her head

"Well, I just thought if we could just hang out like before, then we could be in good turns and what not. But that's out the trash," Isabelle, giving up on Waluigi sighed heavily.

"Good thing, he never gets along with anyone. Never had a single true friendship with anyone,"

"You mean he doesn't have a single friend? not even Wario?" Isabelle questioned back to her.

"Well, technically Wario is his 'Partner in crime' but he's no better than him," Daisy answered her back, "Waluigi could never seem to be loved by...well anyone,"

"How about you then?"

"Well, as much as I hate the guy, he hasn't done anything to infuriate me yet," Daisy struggled to keep those words out, "Better not think about it too much. Most people hate him just by being around them,"

"But, he used to talk to me back at the 4th tournament,"

"That's because you were an assist sister," told the princess, "Besides, what are you even worried about? It's not like you have a crush on him don't you?"

"N-nooo," She let out a long no answer, rolling her eyes away from Daisy for a split second, "Well speaking of him...guess I'll just be the first one to be friends with him"

"Well, there's a first for everything," is all that Daisy said before entering a part of the table away from Isabelle.

And so Isabelle embarks on her mission to make friends with Waluigi, by making some plans, and other social outings to make him like her. She went towards the Mario Bros to see what he liked to do and asked even King Koopa himself to see what are his favorites. Until she gathered enough info, she then waited until tomorrow to start off fresh for the day.

[Wednesday: Battlefield: Survival match, Daisy vs Peach vs Isabelle vs Marth]

We go into the assist fighters teleporters, where we see three very sad figures together in unison with other assist fighters chatting and talking. Waluigi, Shadow, and Isaac sat on the long bench together, where they are expected to be summoned...for all of their lives.

"Well boys," Waluigi proceeded to break the silence, clearing his voice a bit, "Some things never change,"

"...Yeah," Shadow groan out.

Waluigi you're up!

"Ok...let's do what I do best!" Waluigi, feeling a bit of pride in him, grabbed his tennis racket and left the two guys by themselves.

He hopped onto the teleporter and disappeared in a flash of light. Where he appeared right in the middle of the Battlefield, where he saw a couple of fighters doing their typical fighting. Started back at them for a few seconds until he went for...Isabelle.

"Oh, Isabelle my target!" Waluigi made a small smirk on his face, "Let me quench my sorrows with a bit of revenge!"

He went forward towards Isabelle, who noticed him coming up to her. She proceeded to throw her opponent, Marth, off the stage. She remembered something about Luigi saying that he likes to play tennis near the court just outside the smash mansion, she first tried to go with that.

"Oh hey, Waluigi!" Isabelle greeted him with a wave, "After this match, do you want to go out and play tennis?"

"Wah?" Waluigi stopped himself as soon as she said that, "Tennis with me? you'll get destroyed! but that won't matter because I'm gonna destroy you!"

"No, wait!" Isabelle raised her hands to gesture him to stop a bit, "I mean, let's just go do something together after this fight, you know just you and me?"

Waluigi proceeded to laugh out loud, "Seriously! you're trying to hit on me after you BETRAYED us! that's a low move, even for you Isabelle!"

Isabelle quickly tried to stop him again being flustered on what he said, "No! I'm not hitting on you! I just wanna be-"

Just then, Isabelle was quickly stomped down by Waluigi's foot several times. Not until he finished her off with a racket swing to the sky. She was knocked out of the stage.

"Player 3 defeated!" the announcer called out to the field.

With Isabelle now back at the lobby, we see Peach and Daisy just standing right behind Waluigi where he was staring at the two princesses in confusion.

"What are you looking at?" Waluigi questioned the two, "Especially you Daisy?"

"Oh nothing," Daisy mischievously smirked.

Just then Waluigi disappeared from thin air, back to the assist trophy lobby he goes.

[Fighters lobby]

We go into the fighters lobby where we see Isabelle slowly sighed in the terrible thing Waluigi has done to her, "M-maybe this is harder than I thought,"

After that failed, she began to leave the lobby and try to hunt him down in the mansion. She spotted him walking to the Pub, assuming that he's going to get some drinks or two. Sneakily, she slowly walked behind her, keeping every step she makes as silent as possible.

"Man, Isabelle really gets on my nerves!" Waluigi said out loud to himself, "I just can't believe she had to leave us! She had a chance to stay but she ended up going with them. I miss her so much, as an assist trophy. Just wish that I could be promoted or she stayed with us..."

"Waluigi actually misses me?" Isabelle spoke out loud to her self.

"Who's that?" Waluigi quickly turned around back to him to reveal her tiptoeing behind him, "YOU!"

"Uh oh!"

Waluigi turned his head behind him, revealing the quivering dog walking behind him the whole time.

"You better be going back to your room!" Waluigi snared right back at her, "Or else..."

"But," Isabelle stopped him their, trying to think of something to change the subject, "Didn't you say you missed me? that's so sweet of yo-"

"Not anymore I don't!" Waluigi was furious at the sweet sounding of her voice, "I still won't forgive you! now I'll tell you again if you want to leave us in the dust! then LEAVE US!"

Waluigi's rage made Isabelle quickly ran away towards her room, trying to avoid as many fights running along the way. Waluigi, on the other hand, continued to walk to the bar as he planned to. As Isabelle reached into her room, she quickly locked the door behind her and panted.

"...This is harder then I thought..."

Morning time arrives in the smash mansion and a quiet peaceful morning for our lanky friend. Waluigi, was in his room, watching tv again. Not until 15 minutes later, a strange envelope has appeared from the mail slot on his door.

"What's that?" Waluigi hovered above his bed to see the envelope, "I never get mail, Unless..."

With all the jump strength he could gather, he hopped out of bed and proceeded to grab the letter. Was this finally his time? his time to get out of this assist trophy hell? Is he gonna climb the ranks of the ladder? No...turns out it wasn't in invite envelope. He opened up the seemingly blank piece of paper with a few bits of writing on the back.

I know you're mad about me being promoted to a fighter, but you must understand that that doesn't change how we should act. I want you to know, that I still care for you no matter what. Please take your time to reconsider, Okay?

-Isabelle

"Pfft," Waluigi shrugged off the letter and proceded to write a reply on the back of it with a pen and his words.

A few hours later, we go into Isabelle's room once again for a change. She was making everything spotless and seeing if any dirt or dust lingers on the floors. Not until she was interrupted by an envelope being dropped onto the floor. She knew for sure that it was a reply to Waluigi, as it was addressed to her.

"Oh boy! Waluigi finally replied!" Isabelle lightened up a bit as she grabbed the envelope, "I wonder what he put,"

She opened up the envelope, revealing the paper that Waluigi wrote on the back and...a bob-omb? IT was strangle attached to the letter to the point where the little secretary was a bit confused. How could a huge item like this be attached to this letter? Speaking of the letter, she read the only sentence that he only wrote

I would have a heart and accept your offer IF I HAD ONE! plus I don't like to be with traitorous people! NOW GET OUT OF MY LIFE!

"Ummm," Isabelle was stunned as the bob-OMB quickly detonated into her face,

*KABOOM*

The aftermath of the explosion was her covered in black dust, with her hair jumbled up in a mess. She was a bit sad and sighed at the sight of her messed up the room.

"H-h-how can one p-p-person not make any new friends?" Isabelle sniffed a few tears she tried to recover from the explosion

"Woah, Isabelle," a familiar looking fighter came inside her room, "What happened here? I heard an explosion from here,"

It was her Mayor, that had seen the damage inside of Isabelle's room, "Is everything okay?"

"No Mayor! it's not okay!" Isabelle answered him back trying to wipe the smut off her eyes, "Why couldn't he make just one friend JUST ONE!"

"Umm," he slowly tried to process everything she said, "Who are we talking about?"

"WALUIGI!" she shouted, "Why couldn't I just be his friend! it isn't that hard! but he keeps on rejected me every time!"

"Oh him?" the mayor scratched his chin, "He's Waluigi, he doesn't have any friends."

"But that doesn't mean he should never have any!" she sobbed back, "He calls me a traitor all the time and he placed this bomb on this letter!"

"Well, Waluigi is known for being mischievous," he replied back to his assistant, "I mean, why bother with it anyway? It's not like anyone even loves heck even care about him!"

"B-b-but," Isabelle started to get things together with herself, "I love him, and I do care about. But he's just missing such a huge opportunity,"

"He's mad about not being a fighter eh?" The mayor suggested her an idea, "If you really care about, you would give up your spot on the roster to him and go back to an assist trophy. But I know you wouldn't do such lengths."

Isabelle slowly pondered in her mind, something that had to be done. It made her mayor a bit awkward to be in this type of situation at hand, so he suggests that he helps Isabelle to tidy up her room. She instantly agreed and began to work on it.

The next day at around noon, we see Waluigi, again sitting on the bar stool of the pub. Drinking all alone this time, he stared his head at the TV that was on the news channel and seeing some video footage of a free-for-all match. Quickly sighing, he threw down another glass and proceeded to request for a refill. With a few drinks in his body, he went on wallowing in his own shame.

It was a not so bright morning for Waluigi, as he isn't sorrowed that he wasn't promoted, no, but he was on another topic in his mind. He's been having doubts about putting that trap onto the letter he gave Isabelle, wondering if it's too much to handle for her. Still, though, he remembered all of the words she wrote.

"Was Isabelle trying to be my friend the whole time?" Is all he could've thought of, "Out of all of the chumps and people, she picked me first? Why! Why did she think of me first? what's special about me? That I'm a loser? If so, she would've made fun of me for that. Was all of this really real? Was she really trying to be my friend from the letter?"

Just now, when all hope is lost for him, he was greeted again with the same person that's been bugging him for the week. Isabelle sat on the barstool, struggling to get on top as well due to the stools being way too high for her.

"...Hey," she greeted the plumber

Waluigi could only turn his eyes towards her as he stood silent, without anything to say to her this time. Isabelle as well stayed quiet for a few minutes.

She attempted once more, "So...got that letter you gave me...I expected it from someone who's mad about not getting promoted..."

He only ground his own teeth together to ease his anger, "...It's just not fair...they picked you over me..."

"Well, that's gonna change!" Isabelle threw down her invitation letter to the tournament, still opened from before, "If you really want to be in the tournament! then you can have MY invite!"

"Huh?"

"That's right!" Isabelle grew a small tear right on her cheeks, "If you really wanted to compete...then...then you can just go right on it."

Waluigi slowly grabbed the invitational letter and slowly began to skim through it, "It...doesn't have your name on it?"

"Well, you were right! I did have a chance to turn it down," Isabelle sniffed her little nose, "So there! you can be happy now! now you could stop being the cruel the person you are!"

"W-w-w-wait?" Waluigi quickly turned his head at the tearing up dog, "That means you'll be..."

"I'll go back to being an assist!" Isabelle shouted out loud, "See, this what friends do! they GIVE UP EVERYTHING TO MAKE THEM HAPPY!"

"B-b-but!"

With that, she flew out of the pub and away she goes. Waluigi, holding onto the letter, simply stared down to the doors trying to get off his seat and chase her down. Sighed in defeat, he stayed put, thinking to himself for most of the day. Just a half an hour pass and we see Shadow and Isaac joining him for a few drinks. As they sat between the tall guy, they noticed something...something of great significance. The smash invite letter that Isabelle gave him. Little to their knowledge, they thought that the letter was all for Waluigi.

"Do my eyes deceive me?!" Shadow stared down at Waluigi's hand with the letter holding it, "You...got in?"

"Oh yeah, Waluigi!" Isaac congratulated him by patting his back, "You're going to the big boys now!"

"No..." Waluigi refused his cheering and pushed his hand to the side, "This isn't mine! It belongs to Isabelle."

"Stealing peoples invite letters I see?" Shadow's feelings have completely changed from surprised to disgusted, "I don't think that's the fair way to get in,"

"She gave it to me..." Waluigi continued on explaining, "She gave up her invite to me and turned back to assist trophy status,"

"Well, what a nice person she is huh?" Isaac questioned him back.

"NO!" Waluigi shouted back at him, "I don't deserve this! I should be invited to my own terms! she gave up her spot for me!"

Waluigi quickly stood up from the stool and proceeded to go out of the pub. While walking around the hallway, fighters notice him with the letter, assuming he actually made the battle. With every single piece of heart he has, he power walked through all of them and proceded to search for Isabelle

"Where did she go?" Waluigi looked around at the different stage portals, "Smashville?"

He instantly hoped into the portal for Smashville and came inside the world. Their, he spotted Isabelle, just sitting on the edge of the stage itself. With everything in mind, he quickly sprinted towards her.

"Isabelle wait!" Waluigi waved behind her, "There's something I need to tell you!"

Isabelle, slowly turned her head where her eyes met with him and quickly stared way. He assumed she's still steamed from her fight with him. Waluigi joined her right next to the little gal, sitting near the edge of the stage.

"Isabelle..." Waluigi cooed with the softest tone of voice he ever said, "Here, you deserve it more than me!"

"You got a chance to be in the competition! now you're giving it up?" Isabelle snared down at him, "Make up your mind!"

"No Isabelle, I don't deserve this letter!" Waluigi forcibly gave the letter to her, "I've been doing alot of thinking, and what I've thought was that-"

"That you're a complete jerk?!" Isabelle interrupted his moment, "I could've died when you gave me that bomb!"

"S-s-sorry about that," Waluigi apologized very carefully.

"Hmmpph," she crossed her arms right next to him.

"Come on! I've already said sorry!" Waluigi begged to her what in heavens that were bugging her, "What do you want me to do? give you money? my bike? a delicious taco? anything?"

She casually tilted her head at him with a small smirk whispering, "now would be a good time for a hug!"

"Oh..." Waluigi cleared his mind from the confusion, proceeding with the hug, "Umm..."

He carefully wrapped his two arms around Isabelle, that was long enough to cover her whole chest.

With all the cringing out of Waluigi's mind, Isabelle embraced the hug by gently tilting her head towards his chest by the side, brushing herself onto Waluigi's chest. He accepted the entire thing and embraced her soft hair nudging his bottom chin. After they let go of each other after a while, Isabelle was her usual happy dog like before, now even happier.

"See..." Isabelle quickly smiled back at him, "I knew guilt tripping you is gonna work,"

"Woah, that was all an act?" Waluigi couldn't do nothing but aww in her succession, "Well played, even I couldn't do such things like that!"

She graciously giggled back at him, "Well, there's no such thing as the great trickster when someone is better than them!"

The two happily giggled in unison. With Waluigi putting on a smile for the first time he had ever made...not until he slowly frowned in agony, "I-I was just so furious you know? I've been in this assist trophy biz doing this for almost my entire life. I thought that if this was the Ultimate Smash tournament, then I would get in...but they choose you..."

Isabelle slowly patted on his back with her left paw, "That's okay though, at least YOU ARE part of the tournament. The worst thing they could do to you kicks you off the curb,"

"Well, I guess you're right," Waluigi pointed out, "Besides, I'll be leaving my buddies if I get promoted,"

"You don't have to be leaving anyone." she told to the saddened plumber, "You could still hang out after hours and still be friends. Maybe, just like me?"

"Huh?" Waluigi stood still, extremely surprised, "So, you ain't kidding when you said you want to be my friend huh?"

"Why would I ever lie?" shrugged Isabelle with her hands pressed flat out on the ground, "We could be friends, and still be apart from each other,"

"But why me?" Waluigi asked her making gestures on his hands facing himself, "I'm just an ungrateful cheater that no one wants to be around with!"

"But I'll be around you..." she suggested back to him

"Everyone thinks as me as some goofball! they never liked me for WHO I AM!"

"But I like you," once again, she praised him.

"Why would you want to be friends with this?" Waluigi pointed towards himself, "You're a secretary that does hard work and became someone special to someone. All I do is play sports and party around! and just be the sidekick of that stupid Wario! What makes you want to be around me?"

"Well," Isabelle slowly thought out her answer and quickly answered back, "I just thought that all you needed is a friend. Not those assist trophy pals but someone who ACTUALLY cares for you on the inside. You're just like someone that I'll be enjoying being friends with. I don't really like the attention of people, and you are just those people."

Waluigi's eyes slowly dropped a lonely tear on one end, "Y-y-you really want to be friends with me for who I am?"

"Of course," she grabbed onto his hands and try to soothe him, "No matter where we are in this tournament, we should always be friends."

Waluigi's tears quickly wiped away from his sleeve and began to smile like he never had ever. Carefully, he grabbed Isabelle once for another hug. Isabelle quickly excepted the hug back at him. She has done it...she finally made Waluigi, the most unlikeable person ever her friend and filled a hole inside an empty one's heart. With their hug lasting very longer than the first one, Waluigi stood up and offered a hand towards the little dog, she was a bit too short for him to actually fully stand up, as she had her hand way up in the sky just to reach too few fingers. As they were about to walk away from the stage, they noticed...they weren't alone. The two noticed that over near at the middle of the stage, it was Villager and...Wario? who about to battle each other, but then were interrupted by their small talk they had.

"Oh...Mr. Mayor!" Isabelle quickly let go of Waluigi's hand, "I was just, escorting Waluigi to the sta-"

"It's fine, don't tell us." Villager raised his hand towards her.

"Finally, you got someone to pay for your drinks for you now!" Wario, who someone ruined the mood for the two, "Nah just kidding! go have fun you two!"

And so, the two newly founded friends spent the rest of the day with each other. Waluigi had fun playing tennis with Isabelle, who was seemingly not good at the sport. The two also spent an hour on chatting with Isaac and Shadow, who quickly accepted Isabelle as their friends, as Waluigi defended her in every way. After a couple of laps around Mario circuit, the two had closed their day by Waluigi escorting her to her room.

"So this is the place huh?" Waluigi confirmed the palace she stayed at, "Anyways, sorry for the whole explosion thing,"

"It's okay!" Isabelle grew a smile for him embracing for another hug, "I had the best day ever!"

"Yeah, well anyways goodbye! see you around," Waluigi took a few seconds for the hug after leaving her be.

With him leaving to his dorm room, Isabelle reentered here room, that was still a work in progress fixing the damage. As she brushed that out of the way, she reached out for a mysterious journal, where she wrote on in for a few minutes before writing down the last entry.

After I got promoted to a fighter, I just couldn't believe how he acted! He started to shun me, along with the other assist trophies and he tried to plant a bomb inside a letter for me to go AWAY! after all that fuss, we made up and started to hang out, this time, he was, even more, sweeter than before. I knew for sure he was different on the inside. Next time, I'll try to be more friendly and supportive to him, and maybe one day...I'll tell him.

TO BE CONTINUED?
