Burn Out
- grab onto to the light-
His hand is wrapped around Narcissa's, and Regulas toddles behind him, hiccupping slightly. Bella, oh pretty Bella, leads the pack, wand lighting the way. Andy follows after her, her nightgown swishing at her knees with the wind, her hair loose and a braclet around her wrist.
Cissy smiles down at him, glancing back at Regulas. She sticks her other hand out, pausing for a moment so his brother can catch up, tiny legs waivering as he toddles slowly.
Regulas slows down the pack, and Andy has already spread out the blanket and snacks when they arrive. Bella is standing up, and staring at the stars, black eyes searching through the night.
Cissy lets Regulas sit in her lap, and he settles beside them both, Andy clutching him closer with a laugh at his expression. He wriggles away from her tickling fingers, giggling softly.
Bella just shakes her head, before she joins them, stretching her arm around Andy, her firngers searching out his stomach. He can't smother his laughter when she tickles him, wriggling on the blanket to try and escape. Regulas claps his pudgy hands together, giggling, and even Cissy smiles softly.
After a few minutes they all calm down, and lay back on the blanket, staring up at the stars.
He asks the first question, eyes full of wonder. "What's that?"
Bella sits up, looking at him. "What's what?" she asks, shaking her head. He points, fingers trying to stretch up to the stars and just grab one, grab onto the light and the hope that they shine down to them.
Andy pipes up. "That's the dog star," she tells them, Regulas grinning toothlessly. He raises an eybrow. "The dogstar?"
Andy smiles. "It's the brightest star in the galaxy, which makes it the easiest to pick out." Bella laughes beside her, grinning at her sister.
"You should have been a Ravenclaw," she murmers softly, making Andromeda blush red. "But then I guess Father would have disowned you, and no one wants that right?" Bella shakes her sister softly, Andy shaking her head.
"No, we wouldn't want that."
He is impatient. "So, what's the Dogstar mean?" he questions, plucking at the tuffs of grass that stretch up from the ground.
Andy ruffles his hair softly. "It actually means you," she says softly.
Sirius grins. "Really?"
She nods softly.
As they lay back to stare up at the stars and try to name more, he can't help but feel proud.
He is the Dogstar, the brightest star, and by Merlin, he is never ever going to burn out.
