There Was A Place to Call Home

Troy Bolton sat in his classroom, waiting for the bell to ring. He had to go see someone that wasn't Gabriella...

The bell rang and he rushed out of his seat and was the first one out the door. He went to his locker and scrambled his lock and when he unlocked it, Gabriella came up to him.

"So, I was thinking that we could go to my house and practice some music-" Gabriella started.

"I-I-I can't. I have to go to basketball practice, and then Sharpay is gonna hog me because she wants me to practice my vocal exercises," Troy quickly lied. "so I'm sorry, but I can't."

"Really? Because I have vocal exercises with Sharpay at four, which is when basketball practice ends, and she told me that I was her only appointment," Gabriella said.

"So she lied," Troy said.

"I know you're lying to me, your face is turning red," Gabriella said. "Your face always turns red when you lie."

"I... I'm breaking up with you..." Troy said.

Gabriella's posture sank. "W-W-Why?"

"I've been cheating on you... With Sharpay..." Troy said. "For a few months."

"I can't do this," Gabriella said and ran away.

She went into the bathroom, and started to cry her eyes out. One of the toilets flushed and Sharpay Evans walked out. "What happened, Gabi?" Sharpay asked as she washed her hands.

"I hate you!" Gabriella said and ran out. She pulled out her phone and texted Taylor: WHERE R U? I NEED TO TALK TO U! Taylor replied with: I'M WALKING TO MY HOUSE. I'M ON FIRST STREET. I'LL START WALKING BACK. WHAT'S WRONG? JUST CALL ME! Gabriella said and Taylor called her.

"What's up? Are you pregnant?" Taylor asked over the phone.

"NO!" Gabriella said. "I wouldn't want to be pregnant with that bastard's baby!"

"What did Troy do?" Taylor asked, concerned.

"HE BROKE UP WITH ME AND WHEN HE DID HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS CHEATING ON ME WITH SHARPAY FOR A FEW MONTHS!" Gabriella screamed. She saw Taylor across the street and ran towards her, not minding the cars around her.

Taylor gave her a big hug. "I can't believe him!" She started rolling up her sleeves.

"No! Don't beat him up... I have an idea," Gabriella said.

"You should've said no,

You should've gone home,

You should've thought twice 'fore you let it all go,

You should've known that word,

'Bout what you did with her,

Would get back to me...

And I should've been there in the back of your mind,

Yeah I shouldn't be asking myself why

You shouldn't begging for forgiveness at me feet.

You should've said no,

Baby then you might still have meeeee!" Gabriella sang.

"OMG! That song is awesome!" Taylor said. "What about the rest of it?"

"You'll have to wait 'til open mic night!" Gabriella said, smiling.

"Ugh! When is that?" Taylor said.

"Tonight," Gabriella said. "So you'll only have to wait for a few more hours."

"Okay!" Taylor said.

A few hours later, Gabriella had her guitar and had the floor to herself. She and Troy had planned this months ago, and he was there. She smiled... Sharpay was there, too.

"Hello! I'm Gabriella! This is a song I made by myself, and my ex helped me with the lyrics... Because he inspired the lyrics! This song is called Should've Said No!

It's strange the songs we used to sing,

The smiles, the flowers, everything is gone...

Yesterday I found out about you,

Even now, just looking at you, feels wrong...

You say that you'd take it all back, given one chance,

It was a moment of weakness and you said yes!

You should've said no,

You should've gone home,

You should've thought twice 'fore you let it all go!

You should've known that word, 'bout what you did with her, would get back to me...

And I should've been there in the back of your mind,

Yeah I shouldn't be asking myself why!

You shouldn't be begging for forgiveness at my feet...

Yeah you should've said no, baby then you might still have me...

You can see that I've been crying,

And baby you know all the right things to say...

But do you honestly except me to believe we could ever be the same?

You say that the past is the past, you need one chance,

It was a moment of weakness and you said yes!

You should've said no,

You should've gone home,

You should've thought twice 'fore you let it all go!

You should've known that word, 'bout what you did with her, would get back to me..

And I should've been there in the back of your mind,

Yeah I shouldn't be asking myself why!

You shouldn't be begging for forgiveness at my feet...

Yeah you should've said no, baby then you might still have me...

Oh no!

I can't resist, before you go, tell me this...

Was it worth it,

Was she worth this?

Noooo, no, no, no!

Yeah you should've said no, baby then you might still have... me..." And she ended the song.

She was awarded with applause. She smiled. "Thank you all! Hope to see you all soon at school or wherever else!"

"Next performer, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez!"

Troy joined her on the stage. "Here," he said slowly, and handed her the song lyrics.

Gabriella looked at the song, titled Easy. She remembered that she had written this with Troy a few months ago.

Troy started to sing:

"We broke up,

Yeah it's tough,

Most guys would've been crushed

Wasting their time,

Wondering where they went wrong,

No way, not me,

I'm doing just fine,

I'm not afraid of moving on!

It's easy going out on Friday night

Easy every time I see her out,

I can smile, live it up,

The way a single guy does,

But what she, what she don't know,

Is how hard it is to make it look so easy," Troy sang, and Gabriella snatched the paper out of his hands and picked up her microphone and sang:

"The truth is,

I miss

Lying in those arms of his

But I don't ever let it show,

I laugh, and I act,

Like I'm having the time of my life,

As far as he knows,

It's easy going out on Friday night

Easy, every time I see him out,

I smile, live it up

The way a single girl does,

But what he, what he don't know,

Is how hard it is to make it look so easy..." Gabriella sang, and they both sang together (bold is them singing together, italics is Gabriella, normal is Troy):

"It's easy going out on Friday night,

Easy, every time I see him, her, out!

I can smile, live it up,

The way a single girl, guy, does,

But what he, what he don't know, what she don't know,

Is how hard it is to make it look so, easy...!

Oh, and it's so easy...

So easy..." they sang and locked eyes.

Gabriella ran off of the stage, leaving a bewildered Troy standing there.

Hope you liked it! The next part of the story should be out either tomorrow or on Wednesday. It'll be a sequel, because this is just a one-shot. Also, if you're confused, when I changed to italics and normal, italics is Gabriella and Troy is normal, and they're saying it at the same time, except for the "But what he, what he don't know, what she don't know." part, Gabriella is first, and Troy is right after her. Good day!
