She began to wonder why he didn't show after she and Mako were at the Equalist rally.

When they showed the Councilman's body from the wreckage at Yue Bay, she tried to hold back her tears.

She was his secret. They kept the fact they were a couple from everyone else so they had their privacy, since their line of work was so public. It was also a precaution for any assassination attempts on either one of them.

But he loved her.

He told it to her so many times. He never used her at all. He told her what he felt for her was real. She was the only thing that was real about him.

And now he was gone.

At first she thought depression was taking her over, but after she went to the doctor, it wasn't that at all. She was with child. Tarrlok's child.

He wasn't gone at all. He was still alive. He never left this world at all.

But he did it yet again.

A searing pain struck right through her, and the child in her womb left her body. Now he left her, twice.

With one threat to the world gone didn't stop more threats from coming. She was always going to be the world's Avatar, and everyone looked to her when there was danger. Even when she was at the lowest point of her life.

Then came Zaheer and the Red Lotus. It was a fight she didn't know she could win. In chains, she was powerless to escape. Her friends were far away to save her, and the Red Lotus carried out what they planned on to do in the first place.

The poison entered her body, slowly taking over her as it went to her core. Her eyes glowed into the Avatar State, though it wasn't the same empowering energy she felt. The light she saw wasn't as strong as it was.

Soon everything turned into darkness… then there was nothing.

She thought her mind was playing tricks on her once she saw him. She rain into his arms. His hand moved a strand of hair from her face, tears in her eyes.

"I had a baby… Our baby, but I couldn't keep it. It left me… I'm so sorry."

He shook his head, hushing her. "No, no, it's alright… It's alright, sweetheart, I forgive you."

She was angry at him, though. Angry at him for leaving her. "Why… Why did you have to do it?"

"Noatak grew too powerful, I had to stop him at all cost. If he lived any longer, the world wouldn't be safe anymore."

He always wanted to be Republic City's knight in shining amor. Before they were a couple, his motives were on the shady side. But this sacrifice was the only good thing he ever did for the city, even if it cost him his own life.

"But why do you have to leave me…?!"

He held her in an embrace as she sobbed.

"Korra…" he placed fingers on her chin so he made sure she was listening. "I will always be with you."

Opening her eyes, she saw that she was in the soft sheets of the bed. Tears flowed down to her cheeks. "And I will always be with you, too…"
