In war, the first thing you learn is that it only takes one second for things to change. To go from bad to worse, heaven to hell. I know that. I've lived through it a thousand times. One second, things are perfect, then your buddy is lying in the dust with a bullet through his skull. I've seen what one second can do to a person. And what the seconds following can do to me.

But I thought the war was over. And I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with my love. But I had forgotten what one second could do, especially to the ones your love. And I had forgotten why learning about one second is the most important lesson in war. They stress it for a reason. To try and prepare you.

Because it only takes one second for your whole world to end. And it only took one second for my leaf on the wind to flutter to the ground and die.

I wrote this so long ago it isn't even funny. Dx I'm a slow update, so sue me.

On second thought, please don't. It's not like I own this or anything. -shifty eyes-
