They had shut themselves off from the world, door closed and curtains drawn, entirely in their own world under the covers and the soft glow of the wandlight on the bedside table. Sirius grinned deviously, taking in the sight of Remus' bright eyes, and thoroughly kissed lips before leaping on the boy next to him and tickling him mercilessly. The sound of Remus' surprised laughter rang around their bedroom and Sirius delighted in it. He joined the laughter enthusiastically, mingling their boyish tones in the once quiet and sleep-filled air. They were now both definitely awake, and Sirius had no intention of letting Moony sleep until they had fully exhausted themselves and were ready to fall into slumber in each other's arms.
Sirius pulled away from Remus and straddled him before leaving a trail of open mouthed kisses down his scarred torso, sliding further under the duvet and ending at his stomach. Remus pulled the cover up and peered under it with an arched eyebrow and an amused curl of his lips. Sirius met the gaze with a warm smile, running his arm up Remus' right side and back down again to the back of his knee, tickling him slightly and getting a delicious shiver from underneath him in response. He knew better than to tease Remus but it usually didn't stop him. This time was different. The day after tomorrow, James and he would be off on another Auror training mission and he knew Remus had to face a full moon without them. Not only that, but though Remus threw himself into the research project Dumbledore had requested him to look at, he worried for his friends.
And Sirius worried for Remus.
Sirius tried to push these thoughts from both their minds for as long as possible, so when he finally, finally gave Remus what he wanted, he was also giving him reassurance. Each flick of his tongue, each suck said 'There's more of this to come, Moony. You just have to wait until I come back.' Every sigh and grasp at Sirius' hair gave his reply, 'I trust you. Please come back.' When Remus came, eyes closed and shuddering, Sirius gazed up at him and stored the memory for the nights spent without him.
Sirius crawled up into the other man's arms as Remus moved his hands over his skin, feeling the heat prickling under his fingertips. Remus didn't need to map out Sirius' body; he had memorised it long ago. To him however, it was like a favourite book or place that you wanted to explore again and again. He had the other sussed, but when it came to the way his grey eyes caught the light, or the sound of his moans, Remus could never, ever get enough of the real thing, memories be damned.
When they fell asleep curled together, breathing in tandem, the world was held at bay for a few hours longer. Sirius would wake first, he always did, and pad over to the curtains, peering out at the street below, worry tugging at his brow. The outside world that was always the bigger force. A force that threatened to break them.
