Places and people such as Reaver and Oakvale do not belong to me but to Lionhead. I do however own Sophie (SHE IS MINE! :P) Gerard, Selina and Gemma.

Explanation: I thought it might be interesting to do a tale from Reaver's past. I know he wont be exactly the good, old, evil, sadistic, sexy, smoking hot god of se…sorry losing track, anyway he won't be the Reaver we have grown to love and hate but this might be fun.

Oh and since this is BEFORE Reaver becomes Reaver I had a thought that he might be called something else...Aka Drake is Reaver and Reaver is Drake.

Simple...I hope.

The Fall of Oakvale

"Death is peaceful, easy. For Gerard he passed into death painlessly. May he rest in peace." The priest's voice was emotionless and monotone. It seemed to mirror everybody's feelings.

Gerard wasn't the best guy in the Oakvale, but he was nice and meant a lot to people, most of all to Drake.

I looked at Drake with saddened eyes. His perfect pale face was blank and his dark mahogany hair was still wet from the rain outside. It was only his deep emerald eyes that showed his pain, they looked sorrowful, lost…Almost tearful. I had never seen him so mournful. Hardly surprising though…Gerard was Drake's one and only brother.

Gerard's death had come as a shock to us all. He died in his sleep out in the forest. Some say the fairies came and took him leaving only his earthly body behind, others just shrug and blame his death on too much ale and women.

I held Drake's hand and smiled softly to him, but he merely twitched a small smile in response and went back to staring into space. I worried about him so much. Ever since the announcement of his brother's death he has been less fiery and rebellious than his normal self. I guess he is just in grief.

I wish I could relate to him but I couldn't. My family was more or less perfect. My mom was fit, healthy and owned the local tailors. My dad was strong, muscular and was head of the village guard.

My sister Gemma was young, talented and so intelligent.

But Drake. Drake had only himself and his brother.

Well did only have his brother…Now he's alone…

No, I corrected myself. He isn't alone, he has and always will have me.

The priest closed the funeral service with a few last words and a long melancholy song about how young light burns bright but is the quickest blown out. We all made our way out of the little church and wondered off down the twisty country paths of Oakvale.

"Drake…you remember when we were little and used to play pirates and princess?"

Drake looked at me in confusion. "Yeah, of course…Why?"

I shrugged and kicked at some stones on the floor with my shoe. "I was just remembering…Remember when you used to pretend to be the hero of Oakvale and I was Theresa…"

He laughed. "Ah and how I always used to save you from the bandits but then you would get all hissy and say you could have handled them."

We both burst out laughing at the memory but fairly quickly Drake's sorrow slowly seeped back in to him, filling up behind his eyes like a dark liquid.

I thought deeply at something to take his mind off Gerard. "Drake…if you could live forever what would you do?"

He looked at me deep in thought. "Live forever…I don't know…I would go exploring…maybe become a captain and sail across the sea…What would you do?"

I smiled softly. "Well to me it wouldn't be worth living if you weren't living forever with me."

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me in close. "Sophie, I am always with you." With that, he kissed me softly, our lips gently moving as one.

I pulled away reluctantly and looked at him. "Drake…I love you."

"I love you too Sophie, forever and ever till my heart stops beating."
