As my eyes opened all I could see was a blinding expanse of white, a peaceful white but white all the same. I tried to remember where I was or who I was and how long I had been here but before I could, my head exploded with pain and it all came running back from Beatrice to Tris to Tobias and what Caleb had done and the serum. Mother, I remembered seeing Mother and I looked around, shoulders tensing. Was this another stimulation? Was I in some high technology hospital? And the last but most likely question, was I dead? "Yes, Beatrice, you are dead," a soft voice replied. " Wh..What?" I stammered, not ready to believe it then. Tobias, I..I had left without saying goodbye. Be brave, I told myself, shoulders straightening. If this was it, then I would face it with all my strength. My friends will go on without me, I reminded myself, they had to. "We do not have much time, child, you must make your choice- a hard life in your past, so that you can change it and save those who you love or you can stay here and wait for them to come here one by one, away from a world that is falling apart, but it is your choice, Tris." "Where are you and what proof do you have, for all I know it could be another stimulation," I yelled. This was impossible. The past cannot be changed. If this was another trick... "Bea, trust me," a white-clad figure emerged, no, carved itself out from the light, calling me yet another name from my past. I squinted at the figure before stumbling back. It held my life in its hand! I would have suspected it to be cameras but for the fact that my thoughts could be heard out loud. I shut my eyes but was interrupted, "I would love to give you your time Tris but you have to choose now, after that it would be too late to save them." I sighed, I could not choose, how could I? Peace and isolation or war and Tobias and Cristina and Uriah and Marlene and Will, was it really a choice? "Selfish, it is self-indulgent to choose something for yourself, think of others first." I shivered with both joy and sadness in her voice and made my choice. "I will go."
