The Perfect Niche.
I had found a lot of interesting rooms on the TARDIS so far, but this one was something special.
Walking down the stairs, I could see an orange glow protruding from a large hexagonal doorway. Making my way into the strange room with an overwhelming sense of anticipation.
As I entered the alcove I was overcome. The whole room glistened with a fantastic glow of orange as the walls where that of the same materiel as the control room. The coppery monochromatic metal spread around the whole room, forming large, long glossy walls. The floor was that of a normal tiled cut, the colour of it; White, so that it reflected the walls that imitated an almost sun-like gleam.
The ceiling was extremely high, so high I could not make out the colour of it.
At the far end of the room stood half a dozen white, wooden closets. Completely contrasting with the rest of the room, yet seeming to fit in nicely. They were not large closets, neither were they small. They seemed just right, without knowing what was inside of them of course. Scattered across the room where all different types of deck chairs. Some distinctly old ones, a few modern looking ones and some that didn't even look like chairs.
But without doubt, the most magnificent thing in the entire room was the pool.
Oh the pool. That word does not do it justice.
It was a deep chasm of beautiful light. The most glorious shade of turquoise. Its shape was in-keeping with the rest of the TARDIS, a huge hexagon. I could not see just how deep it was, it was deceptive, just like the rest of the TARDIS. As far as I could see, the walls of the pool were the same as the rooms floor. Tiled white. There was a ladder on every other side, they lead down quite far.
Not only was the pool deep, but it was tremendously wide. So much so, it took up a lot of the room. But what did space mean in here? It's like asking what the time is. Unimportant.
Walking over to the white closets I opened to take a loot at what was inside. In the first one I opened was an array or different coloured towels. In the second, was pretty much the same. But in the third, the fourth and the fifth where some truly outstanding pieces of swimwear. Every swim costume you've seen through history, or could wish to see in you future. It was all here. So many styles. So many Colours. So many bad fashion choices and so many good.
After looking through them all I moved on to the last closet, in which, I found the unexpected, which in the TARDIS, was expected. It was not a mere closet, oh no, it was a whole other room, full of all sorts of floatation devices. Where it all came from, I would not like to guess, but the room was full of them. From lifeguard floats, to kids Floats, and the floats you used when just learning to swim. There was some huge ones in there too. I would have been surprised, but this is the norm now. So I just laughed in amazement. Walking back out, I started again toward the pool. I took off my shoes and socks, placed my feet into the water and smiled. Perfect. The water was lovely and warm. Not hot, not cold, but perfectly warm. How I had not discovered this room before I do not know, but I am glad I found it.
"I really should come in here more often." The Doctor stood leaning again the doorway. Smiling he walked over, took off his own footwear and sat next to me on the poolside. Placing his feet in the water he let out a sigh of content. "Isn't it wonderful in here. I like to call it 'My Perfect Niche'. Not even sure that makes entire sense, but it feels right to me." He put his hand on top of mine and have him a big smile.
"I'm afraid it's our niche now." with that I grabbed his arm and pulled him into the water with me.
