Disclaimer: I own nothing but the obvious.

Heavy rain fell from the puffy grey clouds which hung over the small town of Castle Rock. I listened as the drops crashed onto the now muddy road that my worn out converses scuffed along as I walked. I let out a sigh and yanked the hood of my blue sweater over my head, shielding my face from the cold rain. A gust of wind blew by which made me shiver and wish I hadn't wore a skirt today. The strong wind and rain caused my blonde hair to clump into pieces and entwine with others, leaving tangles.

Why couldn't it be sunny? I hate this weather!

I guess I should tell you who I am. First off, my name's Pearl, Pearl Waters to be exact. I'm fifteen-going-on-sixteen and it's the day before my first day at high school. Great.

I just moved here from Portland so I don't know anybody yet. I'm not too upset about it though, I mean, I can still visit my old friends every now and then since Portland only about two hours away from here and hopefully I'll make new friends too. I don't have a crazy or interesting reason for moving here, we only moved here for my Dad's work-related reasons.

I only went for a short walk straight down the road so I wouldn't get lost and was now arriving back at my new home. It was a fair-sized house, a faded yellow color with orange shudders framing each dusty window. The door was a plain white and the front porch looked to have been originally painted orange to match the shudders but most of the paint had been chipped away, leaving large portions of it just plain wood.

I heard the gravel crunch beneath me as I walked down the driveway towards the house. I walked up the short steps, approached the door and turned the cold, rusting door handle; pushing on the heavy door as I entered the house. The smell of wet cardboard filled my nostrils, which was most likely from all the boxes are stuff was packed away in that had gotten exposed to the rain.

"Hey, Pearl," Mom greeted as she stacked away dishes into the cupboard from a box.

"Hi, Mom. Is my bed set-up yet? I think I'm going to try and get to sleep early tonight, since I have to get up early for school and all," I asked while turning to the stairs.

"Yes, it is and goodnight, Pearl," She said while continuing to unload things from boxes.

"Thanks, Mom. Goodnight," I called back as I dashed up the stairs to my new room.

I pushed open the door to my room and stepped inside. It was still pretty plain since not much has been set-up yet, but I had my bed, dresser, nightstand, desk and chair along with several boxes piled into one corner so far. I peeled my wet sweater over my head and plopped it on the floor. I then changed into an old pair of cut-off sweatpants and a faded t-shirt and put all my wet clothes in a pile on the floor. I ran my fingers through my blonde hair, combing some of the tangles out in the process. I yet out a yawn as I stretched out my arms before rubbing the corners of my blue eyes and then realized that I was going to go straight to bed since I was so tired. I walked across the room and flicked off the light switch and then walked back to my bed and crawled underneath the warm blankets, falling into a deep sleep...

A/N: I know it was pretty short but the rest of the chapters will be longer and much more interesting! Please leave a review telling me what you think of the story so far and all suggestions are welcome =D
