Disclaimer: I don't own any of this, whether I made it up or not.
Author's Note: For now, this is a one-shot. But I might continue this into a story about Hermione's childhood, pre-Hogwarts. I really want to, but I don't know how often I will update. If anyone's willing to provide me with some ideas or work with me on this, you're welcome to. But for now, enjoy and review! :)
"She's really ours," Sarah Granger murmured to her husband, John. They looked down at the child in Sarah's arms. Her gray baby eyes fluttered around the room in wonder.
"She really is…." John whispered, grazing his finger along the top of her head. The doctors and nurses had left them alone for a moment. John and Sarah basked in the quietness, observing the radiance that was their newborn daughter.
"Hermione," Sarah said softly.
"Sarah, we are not naming her Hermione," John shook his head. "John, Sarah, and Hermione Granger. It doesn't sound right. I'm fine with Jean."
He looked at his wife, noticing the beads of sweat along her forehead, still damp from labor. Her red cheeks said that she was not in the mood for arguing; neither did her eyes as she looked at him.
"Hermione Jean Granger, it's fine," John said quickly as he put up his hand, unprepared to argue with his wife, who normally got her way anyway.
It wasn't that he didn't like the name; no, he quite liked it. It was for little Hermione's sake. He didn't want his daughter to suffer for it. His daughter wouldn't suffer at his hand.
"She'll be amazing, strong… and beautiful," Sarah said. "With a name like Hermione…"
Sarah's stomach fluttered as the little girl in her arms quickly looked up at her. "She's already intellectual; just look at her."
John had to agree; those wondrous eyes protected a great mind.
John and Sarah Granger simply sat in the silence with little Hermione. Her essence filled the room, battling for space with the essence of family and love.
John kissed Sarah's forehead.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you, too," Sarah said, her eyes wet as she looked at him.
"You're strong and beautiful and intellectual; everything our little one will be. She'll do amazing things, and I want her to grow up to be just like you."
