A balmy wind massaged the last clinging pair of leaves from a pinewood that I hunched beneath. My crusty pea-soup green eyes surveyed the dirt caked ground as my ears perked to devour any sound that they came into meeting with.

A thick crunching sound of fallen twigs nestled between a patch of thick shrubbery clued me that my hiding was in vain. The coarse bark of the pine dug its brown hardened scales within my flaccid flesh. A horrific odor wafted into my bony nose while secretion of sweat ran from my skin-stretched forehead, reminding me of what I had become.
