Albus Potter sighed as he stepped onto the train at Kings Cross Station. James had already run off to see his friends and he wasn't sure where the rest of his large set of cousins were. He started walking down the seemingly endless corridor of the train, past countless carriages of children laughing and joking. He gasped in pain when a boy from an older year shoved him against the window and stamped on his foot.
"Move out the way, Potter." He growled. Al was shocked that this complete stranger knew his name, but then he remembered that his face had been on the front page of every newspaper since the day he was born, well, if you counted the predictions of what he would look like as a young child, then that had started before his mother had even announced she was pregnant.
"Don't be horrible to the newbie, Flint." A girl said with a sweet and kind voice, but the voice had an edge of dislike towards the boy. The boy, Flint, rolled his eyes and ran off down the corridor and into a carriage at the end of the train. Al span round to face the girl, who had her head poked out of one of the carriage doors. "Sorry about him. He's in my year at school. I'm 3rd year in case you didn't know. Of course I know who you are, and I'm Sophie Adams. I'm best friends with Dom, your cousin. It's nice to meet you." This girl was beautiful. She had long, brown, glossy hair that went past her waist in a gently wavy curtain. Her eyes were almost as bright a colour green as his own. Albus felt his cheeks heating up and he forgot how to speak, normally he was quite a chatty person, but he was at a loss for words. He simply nodded and smiled slightly. She laughed. "It's okay if you're a bit nervous. Shall I take you to your family's compartment? I was heading there anyway." She reasoned. He nodded again and followed her down the corridor. "What house do you want to be in then?" She asked. Albus swallowed and finally got his voice back.
"I-I'm not really sure. I guess I want Gryffindor." He mumbled. She smiled and nodded understandingly.
"Well, it doesn't really matter. You'll make friends wherever you go. I'm a Hufflepuff, like Dom. Have you got a pet?" She started humming slightly to herself and plaiting her hair. Albus struggled to keep up with her fast pace, and she seemed to notice. "Sorry! I was walking too fast! I'll slow down. We're nearly here anyway." They proceeded to talk for the rest of the short journey, Albus slowly gaining confidence. When they reached the compartment and slid the heavy door open, they were just leaving the station. Albus waved to his parents and Lily then flopped down onto the floor as the chairs had been completely filled up by his cousins. Sophie sat down next to him and started telling him all about Hogwarts and the teachers. By the time they reached Hogsmeade station, he was feeling a lot more confident about the year ahead, and he wanted to be in Hufflepuff!
A/N: So, I decided to write a little 560 word one-shot to celebrate (is that the right word? Probably not) the fact that it's been 3 years since Harry Potter filming ended... Hope you like it! Read and review!
