Kadaj held onto the container, a moment to finally breathe. He stared at it, pleased that it was finally his, that finally, the reunion would begin, but something in the back of his head was nagging.
"I wonder who Mother will choose, Sephiroth or me?" He turned to face Rufus, who sat silently in his wheelchair. Weak, Kadaj thought to himself, he should enjoy the Geostigma.
This entire planet should enjoy the Geostigma, it meant Mother was ready. She and her children were going to sail the cosmos together, the planet as their vessel. Sure, there were those failure heroes, but they wouldn't stand a chance after the reunion. He turned, excited for the coming end.
Then he saw her. There in that foul human's hands, Mother. The horror shook him; he had to save her, Mother, Mother! He reached for her, just as that stupid human threw her over the edge. No! The Materia took over; he raised his arm, pointing it at the weakened president. Die, and the energy shot forth, forcing that, that bastard over. Falling, just as—Mother!
All of that, and he began to have doubts. His faith was shaken, he was straying from Mother's righteous path, snap out of it, he ordered himself. The nagging wouldn't go away. A tear slid, as he clutched the box to him, an orphan finally reunited with a family, a touching moment ruined by the thoughts of Sephiroth. He knew, deep down, he would never measure up, Sephiroth. The word was like a disease, as painful as Mako through the blood stream.
He glared, if that's what Mother wanted…Sephiroth. Of course, she would always choose him, in fact, everyone preferred Sephiroth. Even the scared children, because he was the great SOLDIER. Kadaj's fists clenched, but he was defeated! No one deserved a second chance! Why Sephiroth? He stood up, jolted from his thoughts by the rumbling of a motorcycle, as the proclaimed hero showed his face. He stared, as Mother wishes.
