Hey guys! I'm back with the new and improved Tales of the Pokédex Trainers! Leaf will be the main character of the story but I will do other POVs of the other characters. It took me a while to get some inspiration but now I'm motivated to rewrite this story :D The story changed a bit but I kept the same pairings (Hero x Heroine) and the basic plot of this whole thing. This is a chapter that's pretty much introduce all of the characters. The actual story will start in the next chapter.
I would like to clear some things up before y'all read:
- THIS WHOLE STORY IS MADE UP BUT STILL IS BASED ON THE MAIN SERIES GAMES
- Red's and Leaf's rival's name is Green, not Blue.
- All the other player characters' names will be their official names in the game, not the manga.
- Shippings are only Hero x Heroine
- I'm going to make this story a bit more realistic in cases of catching a Legendary. It would be unreasonable for just one person catching a Legendary, a group of people would be easier for catching one.
- All the trainers did not encounter evil organizations and Legendary Pokémon except for the Kanto Trio (but they failed to capture their Legendary Pokémon since they were trying to individually catch them. They were able to defeat Team Rocket though).
WARNING- THERE WILL BE CRUDE LANGUAGE IN HERE
Tales of the Pokédex Trainers
Pokémon Professor Conference Meeting
All professors that represented each region all sat in a wide round table with six chairs. These six professors were Prof. Oak, Prof. Elm, Prof. Birch, Prof. Rowan, Prof. Juniper, and Prof. Sycamore. All of them were troubled because the trainers that they assigned to finish the Regional and National Pokédex were unable to because they were "too busy" fulfilling their long life dream of becoming champion. They needed the data to complete their research and obviously they can't complete it when the pokédexes are not complete!
"It's been 3 years already since I've assigned my 3 trainers to complete the pokédex! Red is on a mountain, my grandson is a gym leader, and I don't know what happened to Leaf!" Professor Oak ranted. He ran his fingers through his balding, grey hair and buried his face in the palms of his hands.
"The trainers I just assigned just started their journey just a week ago, I'm not sure when they're going to be done." Professor Sycamore sighed.
"How about we contact the trainers we assigned and make them complete the pokédex together? Professor Juniper and Professor Sycamore, you don't need to since your assigned trainers just started their journey." Professor Elm suggested causing the rest of the professors to agree with him.
"Maybe we should make some sort of living quarters or something for the trainers to work in.. It'll be hard for them to work together and share knowledge if they don't have a place to work in." Professor Birch said.
After the professors planned the whole thing out, they made their final decision for their new idea. The new Research Team or "Pokédex Trainers" consisted of those who got starters and/or were assigned to complete the pokédex. Through connections and research funds, the professors managed to afford a headquarters/ living quarters for the Pokédex Trainers to live and work in. The whole goal of the Pokédex Trainers was to finish the National Pokédex by catching all the Legendary Pokémon that exists in the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Unova and Kalos trainers were to be excluded from this since the assigned trainers had started their journeys and there was a possibility that they could actually finish the pokédex themselves.
The only thing the professors have to worry about is communication to the Pokédex Trainers.
Location: Pallet Town
Trainer Leaf, age 17
My childhood friends, Red and Green, got far into their journey. Red defeated the champion 3 years and now sits on the top of a mountain waiting for a challenger to defeat him. Green thought he failed in life, just like me, but he ended up becoming the Viridian City Gym Leader. And here I am, staying in my hometown doing nothing with my life. I'm still training my pokémon and have rematches with people it just isn't as fun as when I started my journey 3 years ago. Funny thing is, I never completed the pokédex that Professor Oak assigned to us.
"Leaf, go wash the dishes!" my mom commanded from downstairs. I groaned as I got up from my bed and kicked a few chip bags that were on my bed sheets. I cautiously walked in my floor that was full of dirty clothes and food wrappers. Just when I was about to open my door, I tripped over a pile of dirty laundry. I grunted once again and got up and went downstairs.
Once I was done with the dishes, I heard my house phone ringing. I raised my eyebrow and then answered the phone. I greeted the person whoever was calling and it turned out to be Professor Oak. We had minor chit chat for a bit until he started talking in a more serious tone. He talked about Red, Green, and I not finishing the pokédex and I anime sweat dropped. He then told me something about this Research Team- blah blah blah. After explaining this whole idea to me, he then ordered me to get Red from Mt. Silver.
Ha, that will be so easy.
I hope you knew that was sarcasm. If you didn't, I will pray for you.
After the phone call, I dressed into appropriate clothes for Mt. Silver and stocked up on supplies. I called out Pidge, my Pidgeot, and flew towards Mt. Silver. I held onto my hat with one hand and the other was hugging my pokémon.
Red...
To be honest, he was on my mind these past three years. I'm really worried about him. I don't know how he could survive in such a lonely place but then again, he still had his pokémon with him. The thing is, I traveled together with him on our journey because our moms made us. It was really awkward, but we somehow warmed up to each other and became best friends. Red was really quiet but he enjoys listening to my rambles and stories. He helped me become a better trainer and well, I feel like I owe him. I always thought I was a burden to him but he kept on reassuring me that we're friends and we should stick together. I helped him fight against Team Rocket and we both tried to catch Legendary Pokémon but it was impossible. Time went by and we then challenged the Elite Four. I lost to Lance and wasn't able to challenge Red but I got over it after a while. Red and I continued to hang out but I knew he wanted to do something more as the champion of Kanto. He told me that he wanted to stay in Mt. Silver and challenge someone that was stronger than him and he would come back to Pallet Town once he's defeated. Obviously, he hasn't been beaten yet. I tried climbing up the mountain just to see him again, but it's way too hard for my team and I.
I landed in the bottom of the mountain and started climbing up the mountain. I kept on spraying Max Repels everywhere because I was not in the mood to battle vicious, wild pokémon. Blaze, my Ninetales, helped me keep warm but I had to put her back in her poké ball after a while so she wouldn't wear herself out. Mt. Silver was obviously not a walk in the park. It was tiring and I kept on cursing every time I would trip over my own two feet.
I will cut a bitch because of this.
It took a while and bunch of cursing for me to arrive at the top. I swear, the tension here is real. No not sexual tension, you perv.
"Red!" I called out in the snow storm. I clung onto my jacket tightly and saw something getting closer and closer. I squinted my eyes to figure out who it was but the thick storm made it hard to have an idea of who it was. I waited for it to come towards me and it happened to be Red's companion, Pikachu!
He smiled and jumped into my hands probably for warmth. With his little arms and paw, he pointed to the left. Knowing it would probably lead to Red, I followed Pika's directions until I arrived at a cave. Pika jumped off my hands and started to run into the cave entrance with me quickly following him. Inside the cave looked like some sort of shelter. Red was in the center of the "room" with his back facing me and was making some food with the fire as a variation for a stove. Pikachu spoke in words that only contained his own name and Red turned around and was shocked to see me.
"Hi Red.." I said softly.
There's one thing I have to say, Red got hit by a bus called puberty. Like dammnn, he's fineee.
We hugged each other and I just stared at him. I seriously sound like a creep, but he seriously looks attractive.
"Is there something on my face?" Red asked.
"No, you look attractive tho." I bluntly said. Red laughed. I was a blunt person, Red is used to that type of stuff.
"You would say that!" He commented and flicked my white hat off my head.
We talked a bit more and I told him about the whole Research Team thing. He seemed okay with the whole thing but he wanted to go back up Mt. Silver once we completed the pokédex. We then headed back to Pallet Town with me on Pidge and Red on his Charizard. Red greeted everyone in the town and went to talk to his mom for half an hour. His mom was tearing up as she saw him, it was a touching moment. After Red talked to his mother, we both went to Professor Oak's lab and saw Blue there.
"Oh wow, how long has it been since we all three have been together?" Green asked.
A few years ago, we were all the same height and had baby faces. But now, they're around 5'9'' and I'm 5'4''. Seriously, the height difference is real. But the funny thing is that we're all wearing the same wardrobe like we always do.
"It's been a long time. Aww.. I remember when we started our journey!" I cooed as I reminisced the times of the beginning of my journey.
We talked a bit more catching up with each other's lives until Professor Oak came into the lab.
"So, all of you have heard about this Research Team, right?" Professor Oak asked all of us. We nodded our heads in unison.
"Well, you will be working with other trainers that around your age and younger to complete the pokédex. We, as in the other professors and I, have bought a living quarters for all of you to stay in until you complete this pokédex. You will stay in Goldenrod City which is in the Johto region, you'll be going there in two days so you better start packing everything you have. I contacted your parents so you have no excuse in not taking part of this." the professor said. Blue rolled his eyes and sighed.
"What about my post as a gym leader? Who's going to replace me?" Blue asked with a smirk on his face.
"A boy from Sinnoh named Barry will be your substitute in the mean time." Prof. Oak said. Blue sighed once again and crossed his arms.
Wow, even a few years later and he is still immature.
We left the lab after that and went straight to packing our belongings.
Location: New Bark Town
Trainer Kris, Age: 16
"Kris! I need assistance over here!" Professor Elm called out. I walked quickly towards where he was at with a clipboard in my hands and my lab coat swishing as I walked.
"What is it?" I asked. He gave me ten empty file folders and brought me to a table with papers and pictures everywhere.
"Please sort this out by the name of the person and their documents." He said and left to do his own work.
Sure it was fun being an assistant for a scientist but there are times when I just want to quit this job. I had to finish assignments way past closing hours and Gold is the one who always reminds me what time it is so I can leave the lab.
I sorted the papers by the name like he asked me to. One thing that caught my eye was the name Red on few of the pictures and documents. I raised my eyebrow and inspected the documents. Just why is the Ex-Kanto Champion are in these documents. Then I saw the name Green also on few of the papers. I still sorted them out and I happened to see mine, Gold's, and Silver's pictures in the pile. Now I was really confused on what was happening. All of the documents had information on what badges were earned and amount of how many pokémon caught and seen. I looked through more pictures and saw the faces of the Hoenn and Sinnoh champions. What exactly are these photos and documents for?
"Uh, Professor Elm, what are these for?" I asked, referring to the documents in my hand. He looked at me in a confused way and then saw the papers in my hand and it looked liked as if he remembered something very important.
"Oh! That's for this Research Team the professors and I have been talking about! I can talk about it more if you can go contact Gold and Silver and tell them to be here as soon as possible." he said. I nodded and took out my phone to contact the two.
After around half an hour, Gold and Silver came. Gold was the Johto Champion but he's currently trying to become Kanto Champion too. Silver is just a wandering trainer who goes around different regions and challenges other trainers there. He finally learned to have friendship between his pokémon and it changed him towards his pokémon but not to people. He's still rude but not violent or anything like that.
"Hey Kris!" Gold said and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Hi, Ethan." I said with a fake smile on my face. He fake pouted at being called his first name but went back to his arrogant ways. He preferred to be called Gold which was his last name.
"Kris, looking at you makes my bulba soar." He said suggestively and winked at me. I gagged and slapped his arm. He just laughed and placed his arm over my shoulder. Silver passed by me, and like the friendly person I am, I waved at him and he just nodded at me.
Wow, he actually acknowledged me for once.
Professor Elm ended up telling us about the Research Team and we weren't excited about the whole thing at all except for Gold.
"I don't see why I have to join this Research Team. I don't have a pokédex." Silver said.
"Yeah you don't, but you did steal one of my pokémon."
Silver was silent after that and I saw Gold try his best not to laugh. I rolled my eyes and sighed. Sure, I would love to catch pokémon but I don't think it's needed to work with other trainers from other regions.
"I suggest you guys start packing, you'll be leaving in two days. Now get out, I need to get a starter pokémon to a trainer right now."
Location: Littleroot Town
Trainer May, Age 15
I wiped off my sweat as I called out my pokémon team back in their poké balls. I was no Hoenn champion but it's still important to train your pokémon. I went back to my father's lab and saw my father talking to my neighbor who just became the Hoenn champion a month ago, Brendan.
Brendan and I have one hell of a relationship. We absolutely despise each other. Every time we see each other, hell breaks loose! We would banter 24/7 and he's always on my nerves! I just wish he can be disappear into oblivion!
"Hey bastard." I greeted with a fake smile plastered on my face.
"Why hello, bitch!" Brendan replied and removed my bandanna of my head which ruined my in the process. I flipped him off and he just stuck out his tongue at me.
Somehow, Brendan's father did not notice any of this as he was sorting files on his desk. After a few minutes, Professor Birch had the files in his hands and approached us. He told us about this whole Pokédex Trainers idea and explained it to both Brendan and I. He showed us the files of everyone and I noticed a few people I recognize. The boy named Blue was the grandson of the famous pokémon professor, Prof. Oak, and is also a gym leader. The boy named Red was the Ex-Kanto Champion and took down an evil organization called Team Rocket. Rumors say he disappeared and others say he went to some place to train. Another boy named Gold was the Johto champion and he earned that title a year ago. I'm proud to say that I met him when I used to live in the Johto region and did not start my journey yet. Another person I recognized was the Sinnoh champion, Dawn. She received her title a few days ago.
"I was able to get you two tickets for a boat that will take you to Olivine City which is in the Johto region. Once you get there, just go to Goldenrod City and go to this address." he said and showed us the address of where we'll be living in.
After that, Brendan and I went back to our own houses and packed our belongings. It took most of the day and everything was stored in our bags.
The next day, we sailed to Olivine City. Let me just say this once, I felt utterly disgusting. Brendan was on the railing of the boat and kept on barfing. His weakness was being seasick and my weakness was seeing anything gooey or slimy. I saw him barf all the remaining meals in his stomach away and I almost felt like throwing up. I somehow got over it as I saw the state Brendan was in and I started laughing.
"I will seriously barf on you if you keep on laughing." Brendan threatened as he wiped away the remaining barf on the edge of his mouth. I immediately stopped laughing. He smirked until he felt uneasiness in his stomach and clung onto the railing once again.
Location: Somewhere in the Ocean
Trainer Lucas, Age 14
I stared at the horizon of the ocean and then went back to reading my book. I flipped the pages every now and then but something was on my mind. It was the whole idea of this Research Team. I was scared. Dawn and I were the youngest of the Pokédex Trainers. I heard that even the Legendary Red is going to part of it!
"Hiya, Lucas! Watcha doing?" Dawn asked as she appeared right next to me.
"I was supposedly reading my book but I can't focus right now."
"Huh, why is that?" she asked and tilted her head.
"The whole Pokédex Trainers thing! Aren't you at least a tiny bit nervous?" I exclaimed and raised my arms in exaggeration.
"Ha, is that what you're worried about? Don't be such a worry-wart!" I rolled my eyes at her name-calling to look irritated but my smile gave it away.
We talked a bit more to pass the time while we sailed to Olivine City. It was a boring and uneventful ride, but we managed to survive. After a few hours, we finally reached our destination. We both thanked the sailor for giving us a ride and boarded off the boat with our bags in our hands. We looked around at the beautiful city and then flew to Goldenrod City with me on my Staraptor and Dawn on her Noctowl. After a while, we reached Goldenrod City and it somewhat reminded me of Jubilife City. We dragged our suitcases and looked for the address of where we would be living.
"No freaking way." I said in awe as we reached our destination. We stood in front of the huge white gate and peeked at the humongous mansion. Why didn't Professor Rowan say mansion instead of living quarters?
I could get used to this.
