A/N: This came from the prompt in my Creative Writing class; I had to write a piece using a random quote I picked out of a hat as the first line. My muse just happened to take me to a R/T place that day. It's a little AU since Tonks doesn't have a sister (that we know of?) but I wanted someone to be on Remus and Tonks' side. I haven't proofed it much, so please let me know if anything is grammatically incorrect or confusing, I'd be glad to fix it as I'm a bit of a grammar nazi myself. Really, I'd accept reviews on anything, as feedback is always nice, and this is the first time I'm posting to this site.
Disclaimer: I don't own Remus, Tonks, or anyone else in the Harry Potter universe, oh, and the first line (the prompt) is from The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde.
Reintroduction
A faint blush, like the shadow of a rose in a mirror of silver came to her cheeks as she glanced at the crowded, enthusiastic house. She was incredibly nervous, and rightly so, as today she would be reintroducing her boyfriend to her family no longer as her boyfriend, but as her fiancé. Her parents had never been outwardly hostile to their relationship, but they had never quite welcomed them with open arms either. She squeezed his hand tighter and gave him a shaky smile as they plunged onward into the house.
Her little sister noticed the ring immediately; squealing out with joy and blabbering on about things like flowers and bridesmaids dresses, but she was quickly quieted and told not to tell their parents anything until she'd had a chance to tell them herself.
She delayed the announcement until dinner, stealing nervous glances at her fiancé throughout the night. God she loved that word, fiancé, it gave her hope; hope for a future, for a lifetime. And with that inspiring thought, she told them
They smiled tersely, nodding their heads with congratulations. She glanced at her sister, still beaming with excitement, and let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. Surely one happy face out of three had to be worth something right? She leaned into him ever so slightly and relaxed even more as his hand found hers under the table. Well, one out of three would have to be enough, because she loved him, and he loved her, and they could never let her parents ruin that.
