I do not own InuYasha or any of the characters created by Rumiko Takahashi
Cold Evening
Kagome sat by the fire, shivering, wrapped up in her husband's fire rat jacket against the cold. Her clothes, thoroughly wetted by her tumble into the stream that fed their garden pond, were hung up on the veranda, there to drip and freeze dry. The house, unoccupied most of the day, was cool.
InuYasha slid the door to the sleep room closed, and carried an extra bed cover with him.
"Atae's out like a light," he said, He draped the quilt around her shoulders then sat down next to her.
"You're sure he's all right? He got mighty wet," she said, looking up him.
"Sure. A warm bath, hot dinner, and he's fine. Part youkai, remember? Can't say the same thing about my wife." He moved behind her, took off her jacket and quilt and draped both around her front. "I hear that if a person gets too cold that they need to snuggle next to someone who isn't cold," he said, wrapping his arms around her.
"You know someone who's warm enough?" she asked.
"Maybe," he said. "Is this better?"
"Yeah," she said.
They sat quietly for a moment.
"I still can't believe he chased that rabbit into the stream," Kagome said after awhile.
"He's persistent. Make a good hunter one day," InuYasha said.
"If he stops trying to drown Mama because he gets scared," she said. "This is nice. I could fall asleep like this."
"Yeah," he replied, then kissed the top of her head. He sat there a long time, watching the fire burn.
