Life in the woods ch.2
Swiming is probably my favorite passtime. Sabo and I were the only ones who can swim. Well, that's not completely true. Ace was actually the best swimmer of all of us. But one time he randomly fell asleep while swimming and nearly drowned. He would have died except Gigi (Garp) was watching and dove in to pull Ace up. So after that we never let Ace swim. Usually whenever we go to swim its just me and Sabo. Sometimes Ace and Luffy come along and paly on the river bank, while we swim. This was one of those days. Luffy was watching a snail and Ace was sitting on the river bank staring longingly at the water.
"Neh, Sabo let's race! From here to that branch over there." I said hanging on to a branch on the side of the river.
"Ha! I can beat you anytime. You're on!" he challenged.
We began paddling ourselves downstream to the designated finnish. I felt a brush against my ankle. I figured it was just a piece of twig or something flouting in the current and kept swimming. I began to swim faster as I saw Sabo was swimming right next to me. Something rubbed against my ankle again. Suddenly I felt something curling around my waist.
I screamed as the huge snake rapped itself around me and started to sink back into the water. My fear seemed to be suffocating me even more than the snake. Ace jumped into the water, his ever present pipe in hand. Amidst my flailing I could see Ace and Sabo swimming towards me.I gasped for air when the snake dove under. I felt Ace yank the snake up to the surface. I watched barely able to keep my eyes open as Sabo bashed the creatures head with Ace's pipe. He swam up to me unwrapping the limp snake from around me. I was shocked and barely awake so I was having trouble swimming. Sabo draped my arm over his shoulder and shakily swam me back to shore where Ace and Luffy were waiting. I pressed my cheek against his back and sighed. With friends and brothers like these I should have known that nothing bad would ever happen to me.
Later that day I lay on my bed just staring at the clothe that separated our rooms. The boys had told mr that they had cooked their own meat today and that they had graciously decided that i could lay in bed the rest of the day, though Ace was probably calli g me a total wimp.
I was still shocked about what had happened at the river. It had been so sudden, and I was so powerless. It-it scared me.
I felt and hand on my back. It was Sabo. He smiled at me and rubbed my back. I sprung up and threw my hands around his neck.
"T-thank you, Sabo!" I sobbed into his shirt.
"Aw, come on. We're siblings right?"
That sentence broke my heart. I started to cry even more. His shirt was all balled up in my fists. Worried about what he had said wrong, he just hugged me tighter, and rocked me slightly back and forth.
