Ohayou gozaimasu! Okay, warning: depressing, blah-blah-blah.
Rated PG for depressing stuff.
Disclaimer: I don't own Ryou Bakura, or his family, or anything that belongs to Takahashi-sama. I also don't own the Evanescence song, "Hello". I'm broke. There are a lot of reasons for that.
Italics are thoughts.
Bold means song lyrics.
On with teh story!
"Ryou Bakura, please report to the main office," the intercom droned.
A collective "ooooooh" rippled through the room. Ryou stood and walked to the main office, wondering what he'd done. they'd just come in from recess!
Playground schoolbell rings againRainclouds come to play again...
"Daddy!" Ryou ran to his father.
"Ryou, mommy's... mommy's gone."
Has no one told you she's not breathing
Hello, I am your mind, giving you someone to talk to, hello...
Ryou's mind was racing. Mommy's not dead, she can't be! Mommy's still alive, she's still here, I saw her this morning!
Ryou didn't stop smiling that serene smile. "She's probably just getting home from the store! I saw her this morning, Daddy."
"No, son, she got into a car crash. She was dead on arrival at the hospital."
Ryou's smile vanished, to be replaced by a panicked look. "Then... then this is a dream!"
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream...
His father shook his head sadly. "I wish it was. Come here, we both need a hug."
"I don't!" Ryou protested. "...but if you need one, okay."
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken
Hello, I am the lie, living for you so you can hide, don't cry
He ran over and hugged his father as tears leaked down the man's face.
"Don't cry, Daddy," Ryou said, still convinced he was dreaming. A tear hit his arm and he rubbed at it. Wait... you can't get wet in a dream...
"Mommy's... really gone? We're the only two left?" Ryou asked, pulling away.
Ryou's father nodded.
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday
Ryou ran out, tears falling quickly. He burst out the big school doors into the rain, tripping on the last step, and landing in a puddle, face-down. He lay there, crying into his arms until his father came out. He picked him up, cradling his crying son in his arms.
To this day, Ryou has forgotten nothing about that day or his mother, and he never will.
