The bright blue sky darkened to more of a navy color.
"It'll be sunset soon," Tohru thought to herself with a slight smile. Sunset was her favorite time of the day. The colors of the sky were the most beautiful then. The different shades of blue, orange, red, and purple were almost magical.
She stood at the sink, by herself, washing the last of the dishes from dinner. She looked up out of the window at the trees surrounding the house, making the sky around the house seem darker than it actually was.
Tohru absentmindedly scrubbed at a tea kettle, her thoughts everywhere but the sink. She was thinking about everything that had happened to her in the past couple years. She thought about her mother, her death, and what she would say about Tohru's life now.
The sky was just beginning to change from blue to orange.
It was still a little odd to her to think that she had been living with Shigure, Yuki, and Kyo for two years. Though, it was equally as odd that she felt such a sense of belonging with the family, something she hadn't felt since her mother was alive.
Tohru thought back on her time spent at the house. She thought of the first time she had met her housemates after stumbling upon Shigure's house. She smiled at the memory of her freak out when she had first transformed the boys into their Zodiac animals. She thought of how kind they had all been to her, especially Yuki.
Yuki. She blushed at the thought of him. How he always been so kind to her. Sharing his Secret Base with her. Planting strawberries for her. He really was quite the prince, and not just in how attractive he was. How his sweet, violet eyes sparkled and shined when he smiled one of his shy, little smiles.
The sky changed from orange to red streaked with dark, wispy clouds.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear the footsteps coming into the kitchen. "Miss Honda?" came the familiar, questioning voice of the Rat. Surprised, Tohru jumped, smacking the back of her head on one of the cabinets next to the sink. She sank to the ground, dizzy and in pain.
Yuki rushed over to the downed Tohru, placing the bag of ice he had grabbed from the fridge onto the back of her head. "I'm so sorry for startling you, Miss Honda. Are you alright?" Yuki implored. Tohru looked up into his eyes, embarrassed at her clumsiness.
"No! No! No! It's all my fault! I should have heard you coming! I shouldn't have jumped!" She wailed, clutching the back of her head and, without realizing it, Yuki's hand as well. Some of the pain subsided after a few minutes, giving Tohru enough time to feel where her hand was. She jerked her hands back.
The red color faded into a dark purple, the clouds disappearing into the dark.
"I'm sorry!" she blurted, a warm blush rising in her cheeks. Yuki smiled down at her, a small blush in his cheeks as well. He raised his other hand to her cheek, turning her faces towards his. He leaned down, bringing his face as closely as possible to Tohru's without touching.
Tohru's face was bright red; she could feel the heat of the blush. She tried to look away, but Yuki's eyes captivated her own, practically immobilizing her. She was boiling with emotion; her embarrassment from the situation, her excitement and anticipation of what could be ahead, and her infatuation with Yuki.
Yuki, pushing his own flood of emotions aside, moved first. He tilted his head down slightly, and brought Tohru's face to allow his lips to connect with hers for a long awaited kiss. "I hope that will make you feel better, Miss Honda."
The last traces of light faded away. Sunset was over, night had come.
A/N: This was my first Fruits Basket fanfic. I hope it wasn't too terrible for you :) In fact, I hope you enjoyed it (even if it is a little short).
