Prologue
She is the darkest shadow among the street gangs, the one feared by all who know the area.
None who have tried to attack her have told of their experiences.
Mainly because hardly any returned from the alleyways alive.
No one knows her true identity. She lives under the name of Dark Rose-Gothic Angel.
Rumours say that she has a dark secret that could determine the fate of the world.
No one has ever dared to get close enough to prove it.
The police have been after her for a number of thefts and several incidents involving computer hacking.
She's innocent, though.
Except for the one time she hacked into the police network to make sure they never developed their latest weapon.
Ever.
It all started the day her parents were killed and she was used as a lab rat for genetic modification.
She came out lithe, agile and powerful.
Too powerful.
One day, she just tore the cage she was in apart and walked out the door, making sure she "accidentally" set a bomb off in the lab and destroyed it.
With the scientist inside.
Since then, the police have been pursuing her after the lab assistant (who was utterly loyal) convinced them she was a hazard to national security.
Dark Rose, taking her laptop with her, ended up defeating the boss of a crime organization and taking over. She still lived alone, sending all her instructions over via email. Accumulating all that money meant that some of her closer allies could go out and buy stuff without being suspected by the police.
She only had three close friends, the Mrrshan warrior Arrlann, a Meklar dubbed DH-337-GOUG (or just "Alpha") and the Cynoid BW-337-CAYH (or "Beta").
As it turned out, the modifications had given her two spirits living within her like yamis-the psychotic, dark Fya'are and the pure light, Celeste.
Now, however, they remain unknown…
