I wrote this after watching the previews for The Last Jedi. Yes, it is only a couple weeks away, but hey, authors love to twist things.

I do not own Star Wars and write fanfiction for fun and practice.

The Decision by Dragonlots

He'd come back. The betrayer.

Luke shakily got to his feet, trying to keep his student Rey away from the darkness that approached.

Her light saber ignited as she too, sensed the danger. Taking a stance, she stood before him, breathing slowly.

Kylo Ren entered, storm troopers behind him, their white body almost dazzling in the faint light.

"No, Rey," Luke said very quietly, hoping she obeyed his command.

Ren moved his hand and knocked her aside, leaving her unconscious on the ground. The lightsaber scampered across the dark rock, coming close to where Luke stood.

The two men said nothing, only staring at each other, waiting, to see who would make the next move.

The younger man tired of waiting and swept the older one off his feet, standing above him, his red light saber humming its deadly song.

"Wait outside," he ordered the troopers.

As one they turned and marched out, their measured steps echoing in the black chamber.

Luke knew he was about to die and prepared himself.

Once they alone, Ren took off his mask, his scarred face unreadable. His eyes, so much like his mother's drifted to the girl. "My master wants her."

Luke dared to look toward the light saber.

"You won't need that." Ren extended his hand. "Let me help you up."

Surprised, Luke didn't know what to do. Did he dare take the offered hand?

"This is your one chance to escape. Use it."

He took his nephew's hand, unsure what to make of the action.

"Go." Stepping back, Ren left the way clear.

Luke wanted to go to Rey, to get her out of there.

"Leave her."

Not knowing what else to do, he edged by and went to the entrance. Rey's fate was in Ren's hands. Luke had done all he could.
